This makes the delays make sense I couldn't think of any technical reasons that could keep this game from coming. But with regulations I could see this causing delays.
In my experience, I've never heard of many games having epileptic tests. Quite frankly the most recent game I played that warned me of epilepsy was Skies of Arcadia, and that was 8-9 years ago.
Epilepsy, you say???
i loved wipeout XL back in the day, but not the ones on ps2 so much because the cars weren't angular and were more smoothed out.
from the looks of this flashing trailer it appears the pointy floaters are back and i'm drooling. when Twisted Metal and new Team ICO game come out i'll get a ps3 and this... when it finally releases.
I am photosensitive and photophobic..... I am lucky enough not to suffer siezures (yet).
However, I do apreciate it when TV, Films & games atleast warn me or cut that un-neaded flashing crap out.
Oh wow... look, pretty flashing patterns.... BORING... we ain't all Japanese school kids liking that crap!
also, is this wipeout HD a remake of the original Wipeout with HD redone stuff? or is it a whole new game? i want Wipeout XL remade in HD. secret cars included. loved the flying pig. haha or was it a hippo?
i like flashing things.
I would buy and play this even if it causes epilepsy.
So just put it out with an extra big epilepsy warning!
The only flashing things I like are girls with big boobies :)
Shit I'd buy a PS3 just for this game. Well, if I was rich as shit.
shit is rich?
I wish they would have left it alone. It's much more fun to play a game while having a seizure.
^ Have you actualy tried it?
so...this better not make/break the game.
I think this stems back to some kids having freakouts during Pokemon episodes in Japan back in the late 90's.
I wish a game would be pretty enough to put me into a seizure.
I guess a lot of people don't know they are photosensitive until it's too late and since seizures really fucking suck, taking out a cd rack in a virgin megastore, turning blue, ambulance ride and a really sore fucking tongue kinda suck anything that can be done to prevent them should be. Hell it's not like it's really going to interfere with any ones enjoyment of the game having certain frequencies of flashing lights removed.
^ EXACTLY
Seizures rule. I once saw a guy take out a CD rack at a Virgin Megastore....man he was flopping around like a fish. It was awesome....best time i have had at a Virgin Megastore, that's for sure.
^Just hope it never happens to you as you may change your view point!
Nah....My opinion of Virgin Megastore will never change....seizures or not.
Fuckin hell, what does a guy need to do to experience a seizure for once in his life around here?
MOTHERFUCKERS! Ahhh! Sorry, wipeout is my one true weakness when it comes to system purchases, it's why i have a ps1, ps2, and psp...
XL is by far the benchmark to which all sequels will be judged.
that godammed game was in essence virtual crack, i was late to work 2-3 times because of it.... oh the memories.
Heaven = Quadraphonic sound setup set to volume level 7 playing this thing for like 6 hours straight
And when you're cruising through a tunnel and let one of those bombs off!!! Holy shit! this game lovingly added an invisible subwoofer that shook the house!
ahhhh Psygnosis + Coldstorage... i doubt it will ever be that good again!
Did i mention it had probably the BEST soundtrack in the history of soundtracks?! If you've heard it than i didn't have to...
OH! shit, kinda went on a little nostalgic voyage there, i can wait till they remove the milkshakes (sry different strokes reference...)
At least i get to play it emulated on the psp...
PLEASE REMAKE XL WITH THE SAME SOUNDTRACK AS THE ORIGINAL SONY! ADD STUFF BUT DONT CHANGE ANYTHING!!!!
Well, this is a rather important reason to delay the game. If it's failing these tests so miserably, then it's a big issue.
Nice. I just found my 4th PS3 game.
I'm glad they take these kinds of measures. Imagine if you where a gamer, and all of the sudden you find out you got epilepsy, and you cant play them anymore.
WTF is this idiot talking about.
Cigarettes have a health warning on them too, does that mean if I stick 500x the dose of nicotine in it they had fair warning.
What a tard.
Are there pokemons inside!?
The trailer looked pretty epileptic, cos it kept flashing for no reason. The game itself, however, looked no worse than any other wipeout game, and plenty less seizure-riffic than many other games already out.
Hey, look, Wipeout!!!

According to Wikipedia, "being asleep" can trigger seizures (for people with epilepsy). Pillow delays suck.
guermogamer:
Are you high?
man this game look fusAUGHGHHHUGHHHHHHHHHIAGUCVKndkashfioahsfihaogi30957290357.54.............,l;,l;
I have never been diagnosed as epileptic/photosensitive, and have run the gamut of strobes, colors, etc, much like many of you.
However, I do believe that a lot of us could find something that causes a negative response if we searched high and low enough.
Case in point: one time in Quake, I turned Godmode on and then jumped into a random lava pits. For some reason after about 30 seconds of never ending fire damage, the computer monitor took on this red hue that made my head buzz and get a little tense in the neck and jaw. Never had an issue before or since, but I can see how some displayed images might induce epilepsy in even normal people.
Epilepsy's about to make you its bitch!
maybe if you have epilepsy you shouldn;t do things that cause it to happen.
^ @ milescosmo... Wow, you are very retarded... Have you read any of this thread?
A bad example maybe but..... You can put a warning sign on Alcohol, but the same sign will be on one that is only 4% in volume and one that is 75% in volume. Now if the percentage was not being displayed you would not realise which was stronger and more dangerous (well you would by the taste, but it is different comparing taste to light as by the time an epileptic sees the lights its too late...so for the purpose of comparison say you had to drink a pint regardless of taste with no percentage wrote... just a warning that it contains alcohol which may or maty not get you drunk). One would have little effect whilst the other would knock you out on your back blind drunk.
There is no reason why any game (or media) should be 'over the top' with such stuff that can cause an epileptic fit (which can be life threatening). It is simply undeeded and does nothing to make a game any better at all.
milescosmo, If you have a kid and he had a fit once whilst watching TV or playing a computer game with over the top flashing, then would you really tell him he could no longer watch ANY TV or play ANY computer games for the rest of his life? OR, would you blame that one tv programme or game that also set off thousands of other kids at the same time?.
Grow the fuck up you tool.
I'm skeptical. I was sure it was some issue with online MP.
If true, I hope the seizure mode is unlockable somehow.
Back to WipEout Pulse I guess.
Someone at Beyond3D (Kanyamagufa) was talking about this being a possible reason before the story broke {Jul 18} (one of those a friend of a friend type deals). But the the top dogs there seem to have pause w/ it being legit enough to warrant that long of a delay. Speculation is it's the multiplayer that's causing the biggest problem.
