Get Michael Jackson's Thriller for free on Xbox Live photo

For the first time since Michael Jackson's death, we actually have something relevant to talk about that concerns him. This is great news for the various game blogs that keep trying to find excuses to mention his name in a bid to score some cheap pageviews. Xbox Live has decided to pay a subtle tribute to the Smooth Criminal, as US Xbox Live customers can download the video for "Thriller" at no extra cost.

Unfortunately, it seems that this is a US-only offer, as the SD version of the music video still costs European Xbox owners 200 Microsoft Points. Still, if you're in the United States and don't feel that the television networks have been playing Thriller enough times, you can download this little beauty right now.

[Thanks, Doyle]

Just a video? Couldn't you just watch it on youtube or something? They should release Michael Jackson's Moonwalker game for free on Xbox Live.

Yeah that's cool I guess but I think it's a cheap move to make people pay for the rest of the videos. Nice way for Microsoft to profit off of someone's death. Besides , I can watch all those videos for free on Yahoo or anywhere else on the net anyway.

I agree, we should get the Moonwalker game on the Arcade.

I'm still waiting for Michael to reanimate and take to the streets in a burst of syncronised dance.

@ DrunkyDerek

How is a free video profitting? Is it only free if you download a paid video first? No, no it's not. Cynical much?

I'm not talking about the Thriller video, I'm talking about the rest of MJ's video's they have up there. Like Smooth Criminal , Bad, Beat It, yada yada. I just don't like the idea of paying for music videos when I can get em free online.

@Kris S
Sony Fanboy? lol, that is funny. I'm not a fan of fanboys for any system. And I own XBox 360

Downloaded! Anyone who can't at least appreciate the historic place of this video in rock history is wearing some serious blinders.

I'll watch it again on the new PS3 Music Video service later, as well as the mass of Michael Jackson tribute shows which look like they've been thrown together in about five minutes!

To pre-empt every "I can watch it on youtube or vidzone comment for free anyway" said and forthcoming, shut up. We get it. Live however likes to charge us for stuff. On this occasion, it's nice that they've chosen not to. Now Sssh. I've read far too many comments today saying just that.

I'm a sucker for freebies. Let me bask in my cheapness.

It's cool that they're honoring MJ like that. Free is always good.

Also, it'd be nice if this hits the PSN, too, so I can actually take it off my system and bring it somewhere if I want.

Just checked this - XBOX Live wants to charge me 160 points. I found this page on the XBOX website:
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/videos/media/fbed879f-75ab-451b-a0e5-252dcdea61e2/?p=1&of=0&bt=0&sb=1

...and while it lists it as free, it says that "This offer is not valid in your region, or it has expired." I'm in the US, so this seems wrong. Is it because I'm a lowly silver?

I just tried downloading it for shits and giggles, and it still seems to cost 160 microsoft points.

Yup, it's coming up @ 160 points for me too. Was this an extremely short lived promotion?

I would've got this for free. . . because it's the THRILLAH. . . but not for 160 points.

Fuck that.

It still says its free on xbox.com, but like Lord Helmet, it states the offer isn't valid in my region or the deal is expired.
I too live in the US

I just went back to that website, and now it too says it costs 160 points.

@Nitex: if you were the parent of a kid who was molested, would you:

a- ask for money
b- beat the shit out of Jackson

The obvious answer is b, but the parents (who already had sued somebody else for 150,000$ for child molestation) chose a). Now there was a trial, during which a "victim" fled the country to avoid having to testify. Oh, and he was found not guilty.

Think about that.
