As if the Sony E3 conference footage of Resistance 2 wasn’t enough to excite a person, it appears that Insomniac will be holding a closed beta in September to test out all those pretty little nuances with the multiplayer. Instead of having to buy a full retail version of a crappy GTA clone, the only thing Sony is asking potential players is to view some ads. According to CVG, buying episode three of Qore from PSN will automatically give people an invitation to the beta.
Of course, the interactive subscription-based online program doesn’t actually have to be watched. You just need to spend the dough. Each episode of Qore is only $2.99, so it’s definitely a better deal than that Crackdown mess if you’re really excited about Resistance 2. Personally, I find that paying for a beta is an increasingly annoying trend. Plus, you’re not really getting a representative sample when you do this. I realize that this is probably for stress testing, but I would love to believe that casual guys quit out of more matches than the hardcore crowd. What do you guys think about Qore and Resistance, sitting in a tree? Does it even matter as long as you can play? Or will you skip out on the premise of this? [Update: Insomniac's James Stevenson shot me an email, pointing me in the direction of some clarification he posted over at MyResistance.net. The gist is that there are going to be multiple ways to get into the public beta, including pre-order programs that have yet to be announced. Full statement can be found after the jump!]
Hey guys,
Lots of confusion thanks to the Qore announcement.
Here's the deal. We are running a Public Beta, and you will have many ways to get in. The best way which will give you the earliest access to the beta will involve a pre-order program that should be announced soon, (for those of you who don't know what pre-ordering is, you essentially reserve your copy with five dollars down, and that five dollars will go towards the price of the game when it releases).
For all of you folks outside of North America are up in arms because Qore is NA only, please don't worry. This is one of many ways to get in, and we plan to make the beta available in all territories, as we need to test all servers and worldwide play.
Further details on how to get into the beta will be forthcoming.
I apologize for any confusion that has happened given the various offers beta codes. Rest assured, we understand how excited you all are to play Resistance 2, and we're going to do our best to make sure the beta program runs as smoothly as possible.
If you have questions, post below. I'll try to answer over the course of today.

Don't knock Crackdown. It was a great game.
However, paying for demos is a slippery slope to idiocy. I won't be doing it.
Crackdown was more fun for me than Halo 3.
Qore is a Qrappy marketing idea...
The Qore magazine is alright, as far as video content. I went ahead and got a year subscription. It reminds me of the old Underground Playstation video mag that use to come with PS2. In fact that's basically what it is. Yet people are just NOW saying its a bad idea. 5+ years later.
People pay for demos all the time via magazines so I see no difference in this implementation. Probably 10 years to late on the slippery slop comment.
I think overall Qores nothing but a continuation of what has already been done and is continuing to be done in the magazine world.
My only complain is I wish there was more content per video.
*cough*crackdown$60*cough*
Crackdown was far from a crappy GTA clone...
I'd rather it be like the MGO beta, where you get a key when you pre-order the game. That way your 5 dollars is refundable.
Qore is pretty much the digital medium of what used to be OPM. Ya paid like 6 dollars for a magazine and a demo disc.
Now, for 2.99 I get movies, insider info, and possibly demos and beta invites. Basically the same shit I got from a newstand for the last decade but now its cheaper and available to download and delete at my leisure without filling up a landfill somewhere.
I think it is a bit weird to pay for a game that isn't even finished yet. But still, I'll do it.
@ brainderailment; according to a recent post by Insomniac's James Stevenson. According to Stevenson, "the best way which will give you the earliest access to the beta will involve a pre-order program that should be announced soon."
its in there somewhere
Sorry for Double post but I would just like to point out that pretty much anything with Veronica Belmont, regardless of demo content or not, is worth 3 bucks.
I would pay to get into this beta. R2 multiplayer looks SICK.
Instead of having to buy a full retail version of a crappy GTA clone,
Crackdown kicked major ass, I will have you know
You may want to update this post. According to <a href="http://kotaku.com/5028755/insomniac-there-are-many-ways-to-get-into-resistance-2-beta">Kotaku</a>, there are many ways to get into the R2 beta
Highflyer...we don't like your html codes around here parts. We prefer to do them the BBC way!
You can get into the beta by pre-ordering the game as well.
Crackdown was fantastic
Get thee off thy hightened horse. There were plenty of us who loved Crackdown and were going to play it one way or the other. We saw it the way it was supposed to be: Halo 3 beta was the icing, not the cake.
Lets look at what SONY is doing instead of pointing fingers at MS. We are still paying money to play a demo, plus we have to watch through advertisements that we also paid for strangely.
You know what, I'm going to go rent Crackdown since I haven't played it in a while. Bite me.
Halo 3 beta comes with Crackdown!? No seriously, Crackdown is fucking awesome.
@Aurvantoid
Except nowadays you can get 95% of that stuff for free off the internet.
@Edge of Blade.
Just because Crackdown was good its not a "get out of jail card" for the idea behind including the beta with the game. Its purpose was the same, an incentive to sell more copies of Crackdown. Same as it is with Qore.
Also you don't have to pay. If you want to secure it through Qore, you can do it via reservation of the game (which will be put toward the full game). Its called options!
Also, strangely I pay 50 dollars a month for a "PREMIUM" online experience through MS, however they still feel it necessary to show me ads on market place.
BWA ha ha ha ha .............ha
I am not paying $3 to get some crappy vids so I can beta test. I am excited for this game but I'm not retarded about it.
The pre-order for $5 for the beta I can handle as all that cash goes towards the game, not some collection of videos. That how I got in for MGSO and it was easy and painless.
I'll definitely pre-order for a beta code. I can't wait!
Personal opinion aside, I actually like this news post. It pokes fun at both Sony and MS equally.
I've got a yearly subscription to Qore (thanks Wife!) and will be pre-ordering, so either way I'm covered.
