Get a PS3 in Japan ... on the cheap? photo

Not only is the new PlayStation 3 considered a little expensive for a console here in the States, but it seems like the PS3 may be a little too expensive for the peeps in Japan as well. Maxconsole, by way of Akibablog.net, shows that at least one retailer in Japan has cut their PS3 price by 20%. Maybe they're making room for a different color DS Lite that will inevitably drop.

PS3 sales in Japan have not just chilled but FROZEN. The problem of PS3's not selling in their native motherland has got so bad that retailers are cutting their prices by as much as 20% in a bid to move the systems. As soon as PS3 gets some good games, expect things to heat up!

Well considering there are no "must-have" games out there, this is not all that surprising.

Honestly, expect this drought until FF XIII and MGS 4 hit the PS3. If those two games don't sell systems then nothing will and Sony will be in deep trouble.

There are especially no good games for it in Japan, because the one good launch title here is a first person shooter, which as we all know, the Japanese are allergic to.

it's too bad the x360 can't compete with the PS2 (yes... the PlayStation 2) in Japan. like many folks have said already... the PS2 is the PS3's worst enemy.

I think things may change after maybe another year. I just think Sony has such a large fan base, that when (if ever) the price of the PS3 drops somewhere around $450.00, people will buy it. I mean, if ya pay $400.00 for the iPod, why not the PS3.

RPG_Worshipper they already have done that, read the whole thing are selling the PS3 in Japan for $325 (thats less than a Xbox360) and is still _not selling_

What the PS3 needs to sell is _good games_ thats it! if DMC4 is a hit, GTHD ships, Motorstotm gets fixed, and MGS4 is coming this xmas, the PS3 has nothing to worry about. But if they dont. well.. the ps3 is going to be a nice priced blu ray player (for better or worse) for another year or so.
