Get a cat: EyePet delayed until 2010? photo

Poor EyePet. When we had a chance to meet Sony's digital animal-monster-thing at Penny Arcade Expo, Sony had told us it would be available this holiday. We cleared off our coffee table, prepared a bed, and nixed the idea of getting another cat for the office.

But according to GameStop, both the EyePet standalone software and the EyeToy bundle won't see release until April 6, 2010. Originally, the retailer had listed the little critter for the officially announced November release, but suddenly changed that late last week. It should be noted that this may apply to North America only; EyePet should be shipping to Europe in late October, and near-final code that has been sent to European press seems to support this.

We reached out to Sony last week for comment, and are still waiting back for the final word. In the meantime, we understand that cleaning litter isn't the most glamorous thing in the world, but might we recommend a kitten this holiday season?

Not having this out by Christmas is fucking ludicrous.

Also, I want this bad. :-(

As if I didn't clean enough cat shit in real life.

I'd prefer a real cat because they're the only lifeform that violates more laws of physics offline than online.

EyePet is an excellent freakish-terrifying-gnome-cat-monkey simulator.
And for that reason, I'm out.

They just featured it on Qore. Think they need to get it out of November though. So many games that month both casual and hardcore.

Yea I have to agree with Jim Sterling.

This could have pushed hardware sales with the younger casual gamer demographic for xmas.

Makes me glad to be in the UK for once when it comes to games... Octoebr 26th release and only £25 off amazon.co.uk for both the camera and eyepet. Bargain - plus, is it just me or does the creature look less freakish than it used to? I don't think it's just grown on me but swear the face has changed...

Very strange that the Euro release is still on track. Surely if one's finished there can't be THAT MUCH left to do on the other?

Anyways, for once it pays to be in Europe, hopefully my pre-order will still be on it's way.

NEED EYEPET!

Jim, this must be the first time (regarding games at least) that you've regretted moving from Blighty!

Can't get a cat, too evil/spindly/creepy/hissy/scratchy/selfish - plus my dogs would fuck it right up. No in a nasty way, but they're stupid, they think cat's are toys. Toy's to be torn into little pieces or shaken around by the throat.

Eyepet is gonna rock though.
