Gee, thanks Nintendo: No Brawl in Europe until at least July photo

You know, it seems like only yesterday that I'd finally been given hope that Nintendo had decided not to keep screwing people over in the European territories. Well, looks like the Big N isn't quite finished stomping on the Eurotrash and giving us a nice, hard kick in the teeth. If you were hoping for Super Smash Bros. Brawl before Christmas -- or even slightly after Christmas ... think again. Fancy waiting at least five months after the US release? Because that's what you're bloody getting.

All Nintendo had to say about it was that Brawl is "currently not planned for a release in Q1 or Q2 next year." That means we in the Euro market won't be able to get to grips with this thing until sometime around July 2008. Of course, by that time everyone else will have had plenty of time to become intimate with the gameplay and absolutely suck all the fun out of it for Europeans going online against people who have had five ****ing months of practice ahead of them.

Nintendo ... this is a douchebag move of the highest order and you have absolutely no clue how to release an online game. Bloody sort it out, because this isn't just a slap in the face anymore, this is a trainwreck of laziness and disrespect. Oh, and you can shove Mario Kart up your arse.

[Thanks Seanus]

No problem Jim.
Pity it is news of the rotten arsehole kind.

There isn't any excuse to have it delayed this long. Translators should be have started working on it months ago, so I can't think of anything else that can cause such a delay.

Nintendo did pretty well with the release of Galaxy, but this is an abomination. Their biggest game for the console (undisputed) and they screw around their second largest market.

As I will always say: If Microsoft and Sony can release their games in Europe within a WEEK of the US release, there's no f'ing excuse for Nintendo to sit on its arse fo HALF A YEAR. It's pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

Translators? Britain speaks goddamned English, last I checked. Also, it's not like Brawl will have that many words -- just menus.

But yeah, there's really no excuse for this, and shows a blatant disregard for online gaming. And they wonder why people mod their Wiis/Ds and import/R4 their games.

So yeah, Nintendo does hate Europe.

I'm sorry to admit that I laughed really hard when I saw this. It really put into perspective how small our two month delay is. I feel for you, Europe, I feel for you. However, that doesn't mean you're going to get any mercy from me when you go online.

All kidding aside, the delay must suck for European gamers. I wasn't really anticipating Brawl in the first place, but I can see how people are really upset and Nintendo's track record for screwing over the little people.

UK may speak English, but the other countries that come under the PAL format include Italian, French and a number of other languages.

This creates a seperate scenario whereby Australia has to wait for this translation itself, even though English is the main language. If anything, we have a stronger case for wanting to go NTSC instead of staying PAL.

Boolean at 12/06/2007 22:27
Holy. Fuck. This is so sad it's hilarious. I can't even find the words to describe how fucked up this is.

I was totally pumped for MP3 and Paper Mario, but by the time they hit Australia I was over them and never picked them up (well, I rented and finished MP3...)

"I sincerely encourage all European Wii owners to invest in modchips, btw."

It's legal in Australia, thank God (region code chips ONLY, any copy protection modification is illegal).

"This creates a seperate scenario whereby Australia has to wait for this translation itself, even though English is the main language"

Indeed. We have to wait for the NTSC version to be translated from English to Japanese, then we wait for the PAL version translated BACK to English again (which is why we sometimes get extra bugs, extra typos etc.). I'm no business expert, but that seems pretty fucking stupid.

Gives us an extra 5 months to learn our friend codes I guess...

It really is ridiculous. If something like Jim Sterlings favourite game Mass Effect, and all the dialog in that can release in pal territories in the same week as its American release, it just shows how slack Nintendo is.

All Nintendo fans have been putting up with this crap for years, it really is ridiculous and totally unacceptable, there really is not one credible reason for this happening.

No one will ever reach Microsoft's level of online competence because that is their natural environment, but I don't even expect Nintendo to deliver anything of X Box Live quality, All I want is a game release date which is based in reality. Even before the internet went mainstream, Nintendo's European release schedule was ridiculous, but in the 21st century, when global news is known by all, and digital media allows for 24/7 updates, pushing back a release date by essentially half a year is bafflingly fucking crap beyond words.

And yes, fuck Mario Kart, it looks like crap.

bad enough our economy screws your prices up for everything, then you can't even get games out the same time as others? Nintendo needs some rant mail from Europe.

Iwata :Delay the game again.

Sakurai:But why? You know development finished months ago.

Iwata: Because Miyamoto says so.

Sakurai: Fine. What should I tell them?

Iwata: Tell them it's for the sake of quality or due to the localization process or a new super special exclusive third-party character is going to be announced in their version that doesn't really exist. Europe must be taught a lesson.

Miyamoto: Yes, tease them first. I want to see them cry and then I'll lick up their tears.

Firstly:

Fuck you Nintendo.

Seriously, I'm pissed off. especially after yesterday's announcement that you would improve release dates outside japan you can and collectively rape the arsehole of half the planet by pushing the game back 6 months, half a fucking year behind the rest of the world so while they sit and make love to their wiis with Brawl we sit on our arses and replay UR MR GAY again for the fiftieth time. I'm SICK of this SHIT.

If I can get Mass Effect out here, or virtually any XB360 game within a week, why does it take you this long to send ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING across the sea? Super Paper, Mario, Metriod, and I mean with brawl, it's not like you can even use translation into all those European languages as an excuse, what are you going to have to translate? Menus? Goddamnit! There's probably not even that much menu text.

This is why people buy modchips. This is why people import. this is why the R4 is selling smashingly. This is why people pirate. If the games were available, we'd probably buy them, but it's hard to play nice when you treat us like shit at every opportunity.

Now if you excuse me, I have a horde of reasonably released 360 games to get to.

Well, to be fair, Nintendo didn't specify when they would start trying to improve on this matter and if it would be applied to upcoming games such as Smash Bros. Brawl.

Still, the clash of announcements is going to hurt Nintendo's reputation.

So European Wii gamers will be left with no new Nintendo first-party titles until July and hardly any good third-party titles as well.

It makes you wonder how terrible 2008 is going to be when this is just the beginning of the bad news.

but now I just want to take a dump in my Wii and send it over to Nintendo cause that would give me WAY more pleasure then any fucking game on that piece of crap! ( sadly I do own almost all high-rated games on Wii, none of them come even close to given me the experience I had with even the least thrilling of my 360 titles ( overlord ( yeah I only buy AAA-titles normally but this came from Holland :-) and it ROX ))

Nintendo, I'm really sorry but I'm hereby resigning my 12 year old membership to your club ( 25 now, member since I was 13 and got my NES) ! GO SCREW YOURSELF!

PS: I'm from Belgium, and I'm also pretty pissed since our loan-rates went up because you lazy fucking americans just gave loans to every fucking dickwad that asked one! Here you have to go through so much fucking shit to get a loan that its almost a fulltimejob for 2/3 weeks straight and you have to work through boatloads of paperwork and evidence that you can afford that loan and then you guys go and mess it up like that and its not enought that you FUCK up your own economy, NO you have to go and drag the whole fucking world down with you... BE A LITTLE BIT MORE FUCKING RESPONSIBLE, there's just too many of you, you have to much impact, realise that and then behave like it... You all like spiderman right? "With great power comes great responsibility!" well act like it!

I will now go drink some milk and honey and then try to get some sleep, sorry for the rant, just got really pissed of for realising what a fucking waste that wii has turned out to be and hearing that a friend of mine had to cancel his loanrequest with the intrestrates getting so out of hand because of your lack of responsibility...

Kind regards,

Just a week ago they made an announcement stating that they would do everything in their power to have games have street dates within two weeks of different territories.

Probably different corporate divisions not communicating with each other. NOE/NOA say one thing and NOJ says another.

I think that we're getting Persona 3 for PS2 in 2008, that's about 2 years after Japan. Great to be European! And added on to the travesty of us PAL gamers not getting games till about half a year after and finding out what happens in it by Mistake thanks to immature wankers on forums who don't know how to do a spoiler warning, we don't get some of the very best games anyway. Xenogears, Chrono Trigger.
