Absolutely shocking news. Epic has said the Gears of War universe will continue after Gears of War 3. However, the third game in the series will wrap up the Marcus Fenix storyline and it won't end with a cliffhanger -- something that would surely grind some fans' gears if they did.
Executive producer Rod Fergusson told CVG that ""We're bringing the biggest campaign with ever made, we're bringing Horde, we're bringing Beast, we're bringing a really deep multiplayer with rewards and unlocks and thousands of hours of gameplay."
Thousands of hours! So if you sleep 8 hours a day and do nothing but play Gears of War 3, you could be playing it more than 125 days.
To be fair, the Gears games sell well and the new nuts and bolts of Unreal Engine 3 will undoubtedly see more use in future Gears of War games. DirectX 11 fur-shaded multiplatform Bears of War anyone?

Gears of War games were always massive in content, but it's still nice to hear from Fergusson that they're bringing even more to the table. other devs should lern from them and studios like Rockstar, Rocksteady or Turn10 instead of pooping lazy 4-5 hour long cashgrabs.

I think they could make an interesting game in the Gears universe based on the stranded maybe rather than the military.
Of course the series will live on. It sold a few million. Quite a feat for a relatively new franchise that's console exclusive not on the Wii.
Harps mounted with chainsaws! Instead of yelling and screaming, they sing power ballads as they saw people in half.
Their song summons a barrage of razor hail which kills everything else on the battlefield.
It could totally work.
"How about a prequel that shows the Locust tearing apart humanity on Emergence Day?"

Yes! Fenix's father could even be part of the story.
