Gears of War's online multiplayer was an Xbox Live chart topper for months after release, before being finally taken down a peg or two by Halo 3. Its deathmatch stylings have kept the title as one of the Xbox 360's most played games and cemented Gears as an early new-gen classic. Can you believe that at one point, Epic Games was going to pull it entirely? Start believing.
"I was going to cut multiplayer from Gears because I thought it wasn't coming together fast enough, right," confessed Epic president Mike Capps. "The day before E3 I'm like "no guys, it's not pulling together." And they made it, they pulled it together, and then we won every award."
It's amazing to think that at one point, the game's beloved multiplayer wasn't working out, and that it was due for the knacker's yard. Capps must feel like a man who dodged a bullet, as this wacky and unpredictable industry serves us yet another dose of irony. Thankfully, the developers never listened to their boss and, months later, the term "shotgun bitch" was born. Thank the Lord for small mercies.

i get killed all the freakin time in gears, but thats because every fucker on there has played gears half their lives it seems. its an awesome experience nonetheless.

and why do people keep saying the multiplayer is unbalanced? It's balanced. All the weapons are so overpowered that they all balance each other out. and that's what I like about it, if the weapons weren't overpowered you wouldn't have any incentive to use cover,
And I'm sick and fucking tired of people bringing up the chainsaw as an unbalanced weapon. If you get killed by a chainsaw now it's nobodies fault but yours for letting that person get so close to you. Stop coming up with excuses for why you suck at the game.

Anyway, the multiplayer might as well had been left out. It was fun until you realized that without being the host, you're practically screwed. Lag worse than TF2 except that Valve is actually FIXING that issue.
I don't know about that. I love tf2 but it seems to get even more laggy with each update. And where is lag with gears coming from? I play it alot and I have rarely ever experienced any lag. Unless it happened to change in the last 3 months since I played it.
i have experienced A LOT of connection issues with gears. that wasn't my point though. every online console game is gonna suffer from that. i was talking about the fundamental game mechanics. hook gears up via system-link, have a good time and you'll see it too
