Quantcast

In the spirit of he whom doth unpack mountains of expensive UPS boxes I bring you another installment of Captain Obvious, or Capitan No Jodas for you spanish kids.  Confirming what our little hearts and minds knew from day one, Epic's Mark Rein has finally said that the company has sluggish but certain intentions to bring curb stomping to the PC:

I don't think that's any great secret that we would like to do it on PC, but for now it's a 360 game. Eventually we'll get around to a PC version. I just don't know when.

Wow: didn't see that coming. As you know, I personally couldn't wait and just had to use a mod chip to play it on all of my consoles, but for the rest of you this may be of interest.

Eh.
I had one long session of Gears of Wars at friends house, and actually got close to beating the game. I think that's enough for me.

I don't know. I like Gears of War, but it's not nearly as good as people make it out to be. Other than the graphics, I couldn't find anything captivating about it. I'd rather we see Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PC before Gears.

Good thing I have a 360. No way would my PC be able to handle it.

I got it rented and i beat the game and i beat half of it in insane mode. I find the game ridiculously easy. shoot their knees and theyre down in 3 shots. I dont understand why my chainsaw never worked.

awsome, now if they can get pc and 360 gamers in the same session, its gonna be nuts to co-op split screen for me.

personally, i can't imagine controlling gears with a keyboard/mouse to be nearly as intuitive as it is on the 360 controller.. there is no reticle when you are in 3rd person view, thats gotta be tricky.

yeah, this is one game that i think mouse and keyboard will not have an advantage over, except maybe the sniping.

I can't see me playing this on PC unless there is a healthy amount of mods available.

I can't see me playing this on PC unless Alienware sends me a new, free PC.

Anyone out there? Hello?

Gears isn't an FPS

Gears is a hiding behind things simulator, not a FPS.

keeping it an xbox360 exclusive would make microsoft more money.

making it on the pc would make epic more money. what are they going to do? well i guess it was obvious.

If the best exclusives, Gears and Halo, for the xbox360 come out on the PC, why would you want a 360?

You will get the chance to gloat and have already finished the game before others play it but that's pretty much it.

It won't take all to long before the PC version would have better graphics and user generated mods making it a better PC experience than on the 360.

But with this news I may actually play gears of war on my own system after all.

No Jodes! Sweet. Seems like no need to buy a 360 if all really good "exclusive" games are gonna be on the PC. Except ill miss all those great xbox live arcade games..... ohhh wait. I have an emulator too. Never mind.

Ok, I suppose it is more reminiscent of RE4, but if it has a gun and aiming reticule then I wants it.

@joseph

Because I know that when I put the game in my 360 it will work without having to drop an additional $200 on a new video card or more RAM. Also there is the xbox live gold membership which has the awesome matchmaking and co-op abilities. Just being able to see a friend pop online, send an invite to them and having them be able to jump right into your game where you were playing is reason enough to have a 360. Any emulation of that experience on the pc would be sub-par at best.

Hey Campbell Rainbow Six Vegas is already on the PC.

As for gears of war on the PC ? Microsoft will probably make it require Windows Vista... and by that stage everyone will have played it on the 360.

*shrugs*

@humorousllama:

FUCK... Although it would probably ultimately be up to Epic, requiring Vista for GoW wouldn't surprise me at all.

@ humorousllama:
Epic has ported all their PC games to other operating systems (all the UT games, maybe Unreal 1 and 2 as well), so if you can't handle Vista, there's always the Linux or Mac version. I love that Epic supports non-Windows computers well, because if a game works outside Windows, from my experience, they usually perform better on the same hardware. Of course I doubt you'd use Linux just to play a new game without Vista, but it's an option at least...

I'd probably play it on my Mac (because Epic is nice to Linux and Mac users), seeing that it's much higher end than my desktop computer, and I can't really afford to buy another computer game system (just got a GP2X, great system actually, maybe a Destructoid review of it in the future?).

Nightmare: Only game I can think of that hasn't been cross-platform is Unreal Championship 2. Which is kind of a shame, game was cool enough.

Good Point Guys, Looking back Epic does have a good track record supporting wide release bases.

However they did not sell as well as Gears of War.

Its practically been selling the 360 lately; This is why i'm concerned about Microsoft's need for exclusivity.
