Gears of War movie may be grinding to a halt photo

IGN tells us that the gears may be getting rusty on the Gears of War movie project, and a recent clog might be grinding things to a halt.

In recent news about Len Wiseman giving up directing duties for Escape from New York to Brett Ratner (great), it was said that he also won't be directing New Line's Gears of War movie. IESB.net contacted a source at New Line to get more details on Wiseman's departure, and that's when the bad news was dropped:

"New Line Cinema will most likely not move forward with (Gears of War) at all. Our source is saying that the studio has concerns with ballooning budget of the film."

Let's hope that's not true. Fat budget or not, Gears of War could be an easy and entertaning game film.

[thanks, Mr. Donut]

I would have watched it, hell I would watch Halo the movie. Very disappointing that the game adaptations are all getting into some bad situations.

This is how it should be. Good games don't deserve movies.

Plenty of games could be made into good movies, it's a shame people usually only make mega-selling titles into movies. Okami would make a beautiful anime. KOTOR would be infinitely better than episodes 1, 2 and 3 combined. What would a Gears movie have to offer? That game has barely any storyline whatsoever, it makes Starship Troopers look like Citizen Kane. It makes for a wicked game, but do you really want to watch Karl Urban/The Rock/Some other guy that looks like a wrestler shooting at guys in suits for 90 minutes?

"the movie woulda sucked."

You know, the more people believe this shit, the longer video game adaptations will CONTINUE to suck. Nobodies fucking standing up for making a GOOD FUCKING MOVIE [not this, but rather the entire video game adaptation itself] when WE should. Just because they've had a bad history with shitty directors/writers doesn't mean that it's a curse. The only problem we've ever had is how poorly motivated the people MAKING the movie are as it's only for the $$$ [obviously]. If somebody fucking stands up to such bullshit, MAYBE--JUST MAYBE--it will get a good adaptation. It's like the idiots who believe video game violence is real, we gotta educate hollywood too.

People are getting tired of shitty adaptations as much as they are for final fantasy to become GOOD again. Instead of whining, "Oh, another video game movie that's gonna suck", it might be a good idea to give hollywood the finger and force them to understand we're sick of it.

I'm glad this movie is gone. I don't care what CatsuTheBeserker says. Games to Movies will only focus on using the copyrighted characters and objects in the video game and say nuts to everything else. I vote with my hard earned dollar everytime by not seeing them. I slipped up on the Doom movie(27th CHROMOSOME! WTF!!! I HATE YOU HOLLYWOOD!I HATE YOU!!!) and I will NEVER EVER make that mistake again, no matter how hyped it is and no matter what game they waste their time on(including Halo. I will never support a video-game movie because they are two separate forms of media. combining them will not work no matter what you try).

Thank God! One of my favorite series has already been turned into a terrible excuse for a movie(resident evil), I don't need another terrible movie of one of my favorite games.

Yeah, umm.. no. Gears of War is a terrific video game, but is lacking in story. People, why in the world would you want to pay MORE money to go watch a movie based on a game that you've already played and got more story out of? That's just silly.

The story isn't that bad. It's pretty interesting really. I like the planet's history, especially how they tried to create a perfect world using architecture and such.

But more of a pressing issue; They're remaking Escape from new york?! With who? Man, they clearly won't have Kurt Russel and it will be a huge disappointment. Although this could give them an opportunity to rework some of the more cheesey aspects of it. I'd like to see them change the ending to the Escape from L.A. ending too. Seeing as it shows how badass Snake really is.
If Samuel "IM IN EVERY FUCKIN MOVIE" Jackson is the Don I will begin a crusade to level Hollywood once and for all.

Gears did not have an interesting story. Period. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Make Earth Defense Force 2017 a movie and call it Starship Troopers 3. EDF! EDF! EDF !
