Gears of War is getting a patch -- but I thought it was perfect!? photo

Gears of War: the game that got an incredible amount of hype and somehow managed to live up to our high expectations. Or did it? That's a topic you might want to think about before you get pissed off at me. Gears isn't perfect. So, when you see reviews that give it a 10, don't automatically think that it is perfect, because it does have some minor issues.

One such issue is the multiplayer. The ranked matches are set up in a way that makes it incredibly easy to cheat. Not only that, but there are some connectivity issues when you try to join a match. But this isn't the first time we've seen Xbox 360 games feature similar problems.

In case I somehow managed to discourage you from buying the game, I would also like to mention that Gears makes up for all of these shortcomings. The multiplayer is still insanely fun and there really isn't much lag compared to most other 360 games.

The good news, however, is that Epic is already working on a solution to our troubles and they hope to release it very soon. This patch will "address the connection issues as well as several other bugs that have been reported." You know what that means, don't you? It means buy Gears of War already, because you are really missing out.

Gears is too much damn fun. Of course you are going to have morons who tried to farm points and rank by exploits for the "emergence day" giveaways, but you always have morons like that. Unless you are a rank whore, just play unranked matches and have fun. That's the solution.

You know, it's sad that console game patches are ultimately becoming more and more common by the day.

Static X, yes that is an obvious solution, but I thought most people played ranked matches. Plus, you can only get the achievements from ranked.

But what purpose do achivements really have? With the amount of cheating and uploaded game saves around the net, I could let you name an account for me, and I could have a gamerscore of 30k within an hour. Achivements wouldn't look out of order and you would never be able to tell it was exploited. The point is it's just a number next to a name. It's not like you are getting anything by having a high gamer score. I honestly think the gamerscore should only show on an offline profile. It should be for "you". Since it's an online status badge, people will do whatever it takes to impress other people. It's pretty sad to be totally honest.

Honestly, I only use achievements to keep me playing games longer and to give me that extra challenge.

Achievements are like merit badges in Boy Scouts. You're not going to put them on your resume, but they are a reason to accomplish a goal.

Or I guess, for Metalocalypse fans, achievements are like banana stickers. It's all about emotional validation, baby.

Same here Grim, the achievements extend the game. it makes me want to play the games more to see if i can get certain achievements that are more difficult.

I honestly don't understand how achievements extend the game. You either have lots of fun playing a game and will sink a lot of time into it or you don't. Before the 360, people didn't have an achievement system to tell them to play multiplayer or to try and be a completionist. People played multiplayer/beat a game 100% because it was fun and the "achievement" would have come naturally over time. Now fast forward to the 360. The achievement system isn't extending anything. It's simply a visual badge that you played a game for a long time and enjoyed it. If you are playing a game and aren't having fun and just grinding hours out to get an achievement to impress people with a big gamerscore, that's just pathetic. Just like Danger said, it's emotional validation. Some people need it on a subconscious level and some people don't.

Its just another way to compete against people. And tell me in all honesty you play XBL for the 'socialization factor.' I play for that special time when I flat-out pwn a n00b. I love that feeling. screw the acbievements, i pwn (or try) n00bs
