Gears of War getting another update, Epic gives details photo

Epic has released information on what will be contained in the fourth major title update to Gears of War 2. The update adds multiplayer experience rewards for playing Horde mode, improves the odds that downloadable content will appear in map selections (provided all players own the relevant DLC) and adds support for the deleted chapter, "Road to Ruin," which will be released on July 28th in the Dark Corners Map Pack. It also contains a host of bug fixes, closes a few exploits and makes some balance adjustments.

More importantly, the multiplayer game will now warn players when they are about to drop out of a match that they will lose multiplayer experience for the action. With luck, that may convince some people to actually stick around to the end of a game that they're losing. If I had my druthers, that message would be a painfully long, slow, auto-scrolling message that could not be exited until it reaches its conclusion. That, to me, is a far greater punishment for dropping out than losing a few XP.

The update is currently going through Microsoft's certification process and is expected to release in the next few weeks.

I have added another unusual word to my vocabulary thanks to you, Conrad. DRUTHERS! It sounds like a spinoff of Werther's original candy.

For a game that has been updated so often, I still see tons of people who are unhappy with the multiplayer in Gears 2. I just wish it didn't take 8 years to get a match going.

Does it still take 20 years to connect to a match?

They need to give the option to actually quit a match. Yeah, might wanna do that first epic because people have a life and shit to do so they can't stick around for some half assed laggy shotgun fest match. Also they need some kind of team deathmatch mode. Waiting around while you are dead in execution for the next round to begin is fucking boring.

Ever tried using the B button to quit? Yeah. Might wanna try that.

Dedicated servers or don't care. The lag is just unacceptable for me in this game playing off host, and I was a serious Gears 1 player. I really despise a lot of the gameplay tweaks they made as well.

Oh yeah, keep the updates coming Epic, especially for the Horde Mode, it's so awesome that even Bungie is copying it.

And as usual, the extremely arrogant EPIC does nothing to fix the lag. Yes, P2P is an issue, but Gears is the ONLY game to lag this much. Not only from horrible net code, but also having the worst region "preference" ever utilized that will stick you in a match that has no worse than 200ms ping. Lag has been the number one complaint since the original game, and yet Epic constantly ignores it to make up rules that people didn't ask for, such as a 2 second delay out of roadie running(no shooting or meleeing for 2 seconds).

Also, how about some player matches, eh Epic? You know, for those of us who don't give a shit about ranked play but still want to play with random people. No, they jeep ignoring that the request for player matches thread/poll is the biggest one on the Gears forums and continue to release bullshit maps for a broken game. Thank God for horde and campaign, otherwise this game would be utter trash.

I love how people think Epic can magically make local hosts just appear.

If nobody is actually hosting or there are no open slots on local servers, you're going to end up on a distant - LAGGY - server. That's simple, you know, physics. Or perhaps you'd like Epic to fold time and space for you?

It would be nice if they made the matchmaking time shorter than the game and stopped me glitching through cover and into chainsaws... Just a thought

Gears of broken.

Good lord, 4 updates and they're still bug fixing? Hahaha, pathetic.

Lag is by far the biggest online problem, it usually boils down to whoever' hosts is gonna win. Especially if they have slow connections. Gears has the potential to be the best online game for 360 but the multiplayer is just too damn broke.

Where's the update to bring back the old shotgun and give back your character the ability to fake out other players, during shotgun battles.

@Orion

You seriously want that horribly overpowered shotgun back?

Good, Horde mode was the only thing that I truly enjoyed. Single player isnt very replayable, and multiplayer is frustrating as fawk.

KyleGamgee and I tried to get through Horde on this the other night, but after getting into two games, playing to about round 20, and getting disconnected both times, we called it quits. I wonder if one of the fixes addresses that.

Yep. I occasionally get the odd laggy game, or poor-connection-glitch, and yeah, sometimes I even have to wait up to five minutes to get into a match (much quicker if you get a team together), but shit me, Gears 2 MP fucking rocks, and none of you haters can change the fact that when it comes to a visceral, satisfying blast out, Gears is damn near untouchable...
