This past weekend, we posted word that Gears of War 3 had been leaked online. According to the latest gossip, this leak was due not to a nefarious Epic mole, but to some impressive carelessness on Microsoft's part.
It is believed that a Google search for “codify.com xbox” threw up Microsoft's Codify page, which is said to have had Gears of War 3 freely available to grab. The pages are now offline, but Google Cache has shown some Gears 3 directories, with only the word "confidential" acting as protection against downloads.
We contacted Epic Games for comment, but the studio had no official comment for us. We're told an investigation is ongoing, but there are no further details.
