Members of the enthusiast press often find it hard to sympathize/empathize with the rest of the gamers in the world who tend to, ya know, PAY for their games.

Well I guess this kind of takes over the crown of stupid DLC from the Horse Armour. I only see some worth in DLC in forms of maps and extended features to the single player game. Well if this DLC is any indication we can only presume the milk is well and truly going to be drained from the Gears games, which is a shame but I guess that is what happens when the corporate thinking takes over game development.
I am thankful in a way that we have top rated games that don't milk the gamers of the fan of the series too much, games like Killzone 3 for example having reasonable priced DLC. That is how DLC should be done, on a respect level towards the people who actually play the game can actually afford the DLC.

I understand the argument of "It's not like you're not getting $60 worth", but expecting people to pay for skins or palette swaps with not a lot of thought behind them either makes you a greedy opportunistic bastard, or a moron who thinks horse armor is great DLC. I don't want to support either one of those people in any way.
Eh, it's okay with me. Day 1 DLC hits for almost every game now. I'd rather it be something pointless and cosmetic than something that keeps me from having the complete game. I got all the flame skins from the beta anyways, not sure why I'd want to use a different skin.
I like how Cliffy B seems to be the only person at Epic Games now. Was nice of him to make the entire game by himself too, and do all the voices. At least the credits will be short

As for the skins, getting upset about something that's completely cosmetic and optional pretty much is an indicator of intelligence, albeit a lack of it.
I remember seeing threads about this shit months ago about people asking for this kind of option, even if it were a pay option, on the Gears forums when I'd check for the next XP event happening. A surprising number of people were even willing to pay ridiculous amounts just to get the golden hammerburst and lancer codes off eBay, so much so that Epic started holding regular contests on Twitter and the forums to give them out for free.
Me, I don't care about the skins that much. I'm more concerned about the quality of fun in curb-stomping Locust and counting how many times I can get Baird to shout "So good I should charge admission!"
@pokota - It's probably because this is something that's completely in the realm of "who the fuck really cares, it's for idiots with open wallets and nary a second thought," content that isn't the least bit integral to the gameplay, like say, map packs and stuff that actually adds value to the content already there.

I'm gonna laugh if this is one of those "early unlock" DLCs that some games put out to get you all the unlocks without the "hassle" of playing the game.
I'm glad to see a reasonable take on this. They're totally optional, totally cosmetic items that cost arguably too much money. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It doesn't (or shouldn't) affect your enjoyment of the game at all.

@Blindfire Then perhaps they shouldn't have hyped it at all. Fuck, they should have boldly announced it ages ago that majority of weapon skins would have to be purchased but no, somebody at Epic and/or M$ had to be deceptive little rats to not mention any of this until you insert the game or regularly check out their community site on the last day before Gears 3's release. Excluding Gold and Flame, 5 skins is pretty lousy compared to other shooters.
@ Polite Gentleman - I doubt it. I think it pretty much goes that if you bought it then, you bought it then, and doesn't apply to any future purchase of a bundle, except that part of the bundle is something you already bought.
Pretty much better to have patience for a non-essential in the long run, for the better bargain, if anything.

I really don't think its a big deal. It's not like you have to buy all or none, and you don't even have to buy individual skins 'cause they add nothing but bright colours to your Gears 3 experience.
