Hm, well Gears 2 took two years to release, so I guess their dev cycle is every 2 years I suppose... But what I want to know is HOW?

MS will rotate a new halo and new gears every holiday season until the 360 is dead. i'd put monies on it.
Next gen of consoles won't be until 2012, I'm sure. Console lives are going to extend, as consumers are slower and slower to adopt new consoles with each successive generation.
The next gen consoles have only really started to take off in the last year or so, with the price drops and everything else. There will be a lot of consumer backlash if the perception is that Sony & MS are trying to take advantage of us yet again with a new console that does very little more than the ones we have now. Think of how the "average" person thinks of computers and how quickly they are useless.
So even if Gears had a three year dev cycle, we would be playing it on a 360. Hell, Bioware said before they released Mass Effect that they intended to release a trilogy entirely on the 360...wouldn't really be possible if a new console was out in a few years, right?

Charlietime: Regardless of what he said, they will still release it on the PC even if it takes 2 years like Halo 2. They like to complain all the time about piracy, but the fact is they still make a profit on the crappy PC ports of their games and money always wins in the end.

I remember getting my 360 when Gears 1 came out. I put in the game and thought wow cool next gen gfx. Maybe Within 30 mins I became bored with the game, I thought to myself whats with the character design in this game... they look stupid and the things they say sounded stupid too. I didn't like the gameplay and the multiplayer was "wtf this sucks"... fastforward >>> now there's talks of a 3rd installment... I officially hate this game now and wish this franchise dead.

I officially wonder as to the sanity of people who spend time wishing a franchise dead. Is this a useful endeavor? If I don't like a franchise, I don't give a rat's ass if it survives or not...I just play other games that I like better. I guess I'm the crazy one.

It's perfectly normal to feel insulted by the existence of games (and people) that you don't like. And then eat a box of tissues. I do both of these things every morning when I get out of bed.
I would never be insulted by Gears, however, it is an awesome franchise. To people who hate it, all I can say is "AWWWWW, COME ON!"

I feel the same way...and I don't actually wish the gears franchise would disappear, but if it did I wouldn't miss it lol. I returned gears 1 and bought oblivion and that game lasted me a good while till games like Cod 4, bioshock, mass effect, dead space (got this one on the ps3 cuz I like the controller, similar to silent hill games of ps2)etc released.
But when games like gears 1+2 and halo 3 (I own and still play on live sometimes) which I personally find not that great but are hyped up so much, they rake in a ton of money..that I feel takes away from new original games or even good additions to a franchise... hey at least I withheld my hate for this franchise till this very moment am I right? lol

i don't think it's quick considering that Gears 2 looked almost exactly like Gears 1 with the only difference being a bit of a graphical upgrade.they've probably already started it a year ago and know how to program games for the 360 so you'd think they could bang out a 3rd Gears pretty quick.
This doesn't sound unreasonable to me. Gears 1 came out in November 2006, Gears 2 came out in November 2008, why not keep the streak going and release Gears 3 in November 2010?
I can't believe the internet let EGM be the first to "reveal" this rumor. Print media. I mean, Gears 3 is pretty much a given. Come on, make up a release date, make up a new feature. BAM, instant hits, job done.
