In case you forgot, a bunch of downloadable content for Gears of War 2 is dropping today. There's the "Dark Corners" pack and the "All Fronts Collection." The DLC costs $15 and $20 respectively, so if you know what they entail, hit those links to start downloading.
For everyone else, here's a quick refresher. "Dark Corners" contains both a single-player chapter called "Road to Ruin" in which Marcus and Dom dress up as Theron Guards and act all sneaky like. Beyond that, there's seven different multiplayer maps, one of which comes from the original Gears of War (Allfathers Garden).
As for the "All Fronts Collection," the price may seem a little high, but it's actually quite the bargain. For $20, you get all nineteen Gears 2 multiplayer maps that have been released as DLC so far (including the "Dark Corners" maps) as well as "Road to Ruin."
This is perfect for anyone who hasn't jumped on the premium add-ons yet, although if you're like me there's just no way that many maps are going to fit on your aging 20 GB Xbox 360 hard drive.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
@ Usedtabe: Host has the worst connection? I never have a problem with connectivity when i'm host.
Look, fair enough, you have problems with the MP (incidentally, when was the last time you tried it?), but a lot of us don't. And since update 4, I'm getting into lag-free matches in next to no time. Ok, the rare occasional lag, but what game doesn't? It's fair enough that it riles you still, but honestly, millions of us are having a great time on it.
You can't say that more people have problems than enjoy the multiplayer with any kind of accuracy. You think that reading a few hundred forum posts from angry players means that there are more dissatisfied players than satisfied ones? It's a well-known fact that people are more likely to be vocal about bad experiences than good ones, and the same holds true here.
Not to mention, there are, what, a million or more people playing GoW2 online? So, somehow, the blog posts that you've read on these sites constitute the majority of that number?
But you also need to consider one fact. Joe Graf himself said that the most played gametype is Horde. In his own words there was no need for a poll, because Horde wins hands down. So you cannot count those millions of people playing as enjoying the competitive multiplayer. They might be enjoying the multiplayer mode with the lease issues, which is Horde. And just for reference, when I complain about this game, I am only talking about the competitive mulitplayer. Not horde or campaign, which I love.
And I too am sad about Gears 2. I waited all night outside at the midnight launch, expecting this game to be my multiplayer game til Gears 3 just like Gears 1 was my multiplayer game for almost 2 years now. I am always down for some horde though.
is like working in the restaurant industry. you can serve 99 guests fine & dandy, yet one more comes end up whine, cry, bitch, complain, even go to website to give a bad rating. The other 99 that said nothing dont matter if they had a good experience, because the one that complained is always the loudest.
even though the argument here has chilled down, the rest of the internet(gaf ex.) seems constant.
I still have some issues every once in a while playing regular multiplayer, but Horde has always worked great. Now that I have 16 new maps to horde the horde over, I'm going to be busy for quite some time.
I think Epic accomplished what they wanted...I'm back playing Gears again!
And it's too bad some people have had bad Gears multiplayer and come on here to complain. Have you tried it recently? Checked your ISP? My ISP unblocked some ports last week after I complained and it's been very smooth sailing ever since.
Geez...can I buy an "Extra time during the day" DLC?
@Shadowii: It's not ISP's when every game on LIVE works just fine but this one. And people who know way more than I do about networking have tried everything under the sun to get matchmaking to work better on their end, but that's just it, it's the game. With a fully open NAT and badass connection speeds people still get these problems. I may be extrememly vocal, but people who just shrug this shit off give developers the impression that they can just keep doing this shit. Which is why instead of fixing the issues from Gears 1, we now have a laggier sequel that constantly churns out DLC while refusing to fix the core problems. Why fix the game at all if idiots are going to keep throwing money at the developer for maps that may or may not work in matchmaking?
Every other developer talks to their fanbase, tries to address problems with their games and in a timely manner. Epic banned people for daring to tell them about the glitch that ate your entire rank/campaign/achievement progress. I'm talking nice, well written posts just asking if this problem was going to be fixed. They were banned for "trolling". So, unless Gears 3 has a public beta, I'm through with Gears. No developer deserves this many chances to fuck up.
BUT. For the first time ever, I had a weird experience in two matches. I got accused of 'switching Lag' ?? and 'Bridging'
Seriously, I don't know what I did. I don't know what bridging is. But I figured it was connection related, because I could basically kill with ease, while the others just sat around sending me nasty messages, so I'm guessing maybe I was a few seconds in front?? I protested my innocence, but they weren't having it. I was accused of cheating, they wanted me banned, but alls I did was join a match as normal. I got pretty upset about it (I didn't cry), so I've emailed Epic about it, because I'm worried they might reset my xp, which I've worked bloody hard for.
Just thought it was funny, after all my defence yesterday, I ended up having a shitty few games, and being accused of cheating, which, I can assure you, I wasn't.
So maybe I'm dumb, but wtf is 'bridging'?
Oh, and fuck MGS. Fuck it in the arse. Most overrated gaming franchise. Ever.
