Gears of War 2 patch out, multiplayer issues addressed photo

If you're planning a little Gears of War 2 this Thanksgiving, then you might be pleased to learn that Epic Games has supposedly fixed the rather irritating waiting times experienced when attempting to make a multiplayer match. A patch has been released today which should, hopefully, make for a much quicker process.

"The matchmaking issues we've seen up till now are a thing of the past," confidently claims Epic's Rod Fergusson.

Epic says that the new patch also fixes stat tracking for gearsofwar.com, as well as addressing an issue some people had which saw them unable to access the single player campaign when Xbox Live was not up and running.

I would try out the patch myself for an official verdict, but unfortunately my copy of Gears 2 was left back in England after I moved. I'm having it shipped over, but in the meantime, feel free to share your own thoughts on the update.

@Scrixx I have an extra 1 month if you'd like

Thank god. I stopped playing due to having to wait 15 minutes between matches. Now if I can just pull myself away from all the turkey...

Hold on a second there, Jim Sterling. Did you actually lug a tv all the way from the uk with a matching 360? Or do you use a vga cable? Otherwise no tv here in the us of a is gonna play that british gow2 even when you do get it.

Tutut Cahuajito, if you'd take a second to check your facts you'd realise Gears 2 is region free.

Just tested it, and all I can say is good job on epic's part. Matchmaking by myself goes much, much quicker, and the games I have played have had virtually no lag.

That's the one good thing about giant, monster developers like Epic, in comparison to tiny indie developers like The Behemoth: They're well-oiled machines that get shit done quickly. God bless The Behemoth, but bitches be slow.

That's crazy about it being region-free. I know it launched everywhere simultaneously but it never dawned on me that it could be region-free.

A Gears post without mention of or a pic of Cliffy B? Happy Thanksgiving indeed!

I'll have to wait until Christmas to play this bad boy online, sounds like it'll be a flawless experience by then.

Nice to see they got a patch out relatively quickly, on some sessions I've seen myself spending upwards of 40% of the time in matchmaking rather than actual playing. I'll definitely have to play some Gears 2 tonight (played some Gears 1 for good ol' times earlier) and see if it makes a big difference.

Cahuatijo:

Is that so? I guess all these other British games I brought with me and work on my US 360 ought to go in the trash then.

(protip: about 99% of all Western-developed 360 games are multiregion)

Well, that's just great then. It never occurred to me that ms would ever allow that. that stupid assumption has kept me from importing all the good football games that never come out in the us or do come out, but months later. this has been an embarrassing and fortuitous day. great thanks to jim sterling and dragonzigg.

I've been playing Gears 2 online all day up until about half an hour ago. It's currently 6:43pm here and I've yet to see this patch. Is it an automatic patch or am I supposed to click around for it?

What about the issue people have about not being able to access their Golden Lancers after downloading them on the day of release? *Ahem*

sad this hit before the years late Castle Crasher patch. Seems we know where the favoritism goes to when passing patches.

hurry the fuck up with the "ok" on the CC Patch Mircosoft.

I've certainly noticed some improvement in the time it takes to get a match. Still goes slow at times, but those are the exceptions rather than the rule as they were pre patch.
