Gears of War 2 not coming to PC photo

In an IGN interview with Cliff Bleszinski, it was revealed by Cliff that Gears of War 2 would not be coming to the PC. The point of interest came up in a question about Gears 2’sLinked Achievements” and the Achievement portability with an account from Games for Windows Live. Cliff said that if you use the same gamertag as you had with the original Windows version on your 360, you would get the retroactive content. When prompted about a PC version of Gears 2, Cliff spilled the beans:

Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we're focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2. We've decided we're not going to do a PC version this time around.

Community member Too Much Coffee Man and I echo the same sentiment in this matter. It’s really unfortunate that the series will not be hitting the PC because of its visual quality and originality. But, the lack of a PC version means that we will get all of the goodies on the Xbox 360 that we should have had last time around. Since my Macintosh can’t run anything past Tetris clones and World of Warcraft, I’m not too injured by this statement and therefore will eagerly consume all of the exclusive Xbox 360 content greedily.

...as DLC, and you're going to have to pay for it.

HAHA and you believe him....

Remember when there was no to be a PC version of Assassin's Creed? Gears of War? Mass Effect? GTA4?

I'm surprised people still believe such crap.

100% bullshit. Everyone says this, Halo, GoW, GTA, Mass Effect. It's just a way to ensure people don't decide to wait until the PC version comes around, in which time they become bored of the idea of buying the game and never pick it up. By saying it's only on the 360, people get the game now. It's just a way of improving sales.

Whether it comes to PC or not... it hardly effects 360 owners who were gonna pick up the game anyway.

@Turbo Spaz, et al

Completely agree. Considering I've passed over Gears, ME & Bioshock since I'd lost interest by the time they came out on PC, I'd have to say you hit the nail right on the head. I don't believe anything they have to say anymore.

lol they said this about gears of war before it released, I will not be surprised if it does or not..either way epic can keep its generic shit, go back to your old roots epic, if your going to make a game for the pc dont make it a fucking port.

GeoW was pretty good on the PC, I actually played it on the PC first, then tried the 360 version. The 360 version has some ugly glitches, but the PC had it's share, just not as many.

That game is only good on soncole anyway where a game so uttrly average dull and simple could exist and people would be happy with it.

the multiplayer is a lame ass death match the weapons are boring as helll

and now gears of war 2 is ripping of the basic invasion mode Pc games have had for years.

who cares?

console junk like this and halo don't cut it on PC hell after i got it on xbox at laucnh i passed on the PC version because it sucked.

don't want.

So nobody who has a PC would buy this game anyway since you can get anything else on PC and it would be better.

Gears is fun on the pc but it's difficult to take it seriously. The story and its characters are simply hilarious.
It is probably better suited for the xbox crowd anyway.

Cube's Avatar
Cube at 08/30/2008 19:22
and that is not saying much since cooperative in games has been on life support since the 32-bit consoles came in a screwed it over 10 years ago.

Does anybody who owns a PC really give a shit about Gears of War? No offense, but it's not exactly a stellar game. Maybe on the 360 where the typical owner's tastes are a little different but PC gamers are somewhat more...discerning. And given the shit sales of the original Gears when released on PC, I'm not surprised they wouldn't make the PC version a priority. PC gamers simply have better games to play, and if UT3 is anything to go by, Epic has completely lost touch with the PC user base.

They've stated that the next unreal engine will be entirely console focused, so I'm pretty sure that's on purpose.

I got a PC and I enjoyed the first GoW, but it not the best game out there, it was ok for what it is.

They will eventually release a pc port... after all, everyone says "no way" because of exclusives, remember Bioshock for the PS3?

@Narishma @TurboSpaz

Mark Rein never said there wouldn't be a PC version (of gears 1). He just said it wasn't in the works (when he was asked). Cliff B. is explicitly stating that they're not going to release it on PC at a later date, a la Gears 1.

05/2005
Mark Rein: "Could we, in the future, adapt Gears for Windows just as Microsoft did with Halo? Sure we could and, as you can see from J Allard's comments, Microsoft is clearly cool with that idea. But we're a long way off from thinking about that. Right now our only goal is to make Gears one of the "must have" titles for Xbox360 and judging by reaction to our relatively early showing at E3 we're well on our way toward achieving that."

Mass Effect was never denied on PC that i can remember. I thought PC gamer revealed it was coming to PC a whole year before it even was released on 360.

Rockstar also never denied a PC version of GTA4. They've always had one.

I don't remember MS ever saying halo/halo 2 would never come to PC either; it would seem counter-productive. Since MS owns the halo franchise. Like EPIC owns the Gears franchise.

Assassin's Creed I couldn't say I really didn't follow that game very closely.

That's all besides the point though, since they're all from different companies.

Point being, having no comment or saying it's not in the works (currently) is not the same thing as explicitly saying they've decided not to do a PC version in the future.

Now given that anything's possible it's not entirely out of the realm of such. But given his statement I would put it heavily leaning on the side of improbability.

No Cube, the 360 got a very port of Bioshock that looked fantastic and played just fine, let me guess, you're one of these losers that claims the PC will always be the superior version right?

Well enjoy wasting your money on your PC and living in your little fantasy life. Oh and your repetitive genres, we'll be over here enjoying variety on our consoles.

And good, fuck PC gaming, NO GEARS 2 FOR YOU.

I will not loose any sleep over it . I liked gow 1 . But what i dont understand or maybe i do , all does game developers became big because of the pc gamers online .Years later there are xbox , playstation and game cubs and now they try the push the pc gamers to buy a gameconsole to get some more money . So i say dont forget your roots the pc gamers made you big dont ever forget that. But there will be other games to play .
