Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

In a Joystiq interview, where he talked less horror and more Gears, Cliff Bleszinski revealed that “multiplayer map-focused” downloadable content will hit Xbox Live Marketplace shortly after the release of Gears of War 2 in November. Bleszinski didn’t add how much it would cost or if "shortly" implies hours, days or weeks. For the majority of Gears of War multiplayer freaks like me, it’s never too early to start talking map packs or game modes, especially after witnessing how bone-dry the first Gears was after release.

On the other hand, there’s still a part of me that doesn’t like immediate DLC. I love the rewards of having extra content, but I hate how quickly it can segment the community. There are always people that won’t buy new content, and thus will not be allowed to pick from the same options online. That means less people to kill and less embarrassing chainsaw deaths within the first week of release.

Of course, I could just throw caution to the wind like Bleszinski does in the completely separate interview above. Why worry about the ramifications of new DLC accompanying the release of games when you can talk about horror movies instead?

....Immediate DLC = Immediate Money because people are still high with the hype of the game.

This is bullshit, if you can release DLC a week or two after the game comes out, maybe you should bundle it with the game. You'll eventually put it on the "Game of the year edition" disk anyway.

I hate DLC that isn't Rockband DLC

Well a game goes gold long before release. If they were to include the DLC then the game would be delayed get it? Epic is pretty good about making things free so the sooner the DLC comes out the sooner they can get it to be free after release. Provided they haven't sold out to the console crap already.

@Heretic: Because Cliff recommended it or because it's awesome? Was that really a clip from it edited in by the GameZombie guys?

I don't think developers should even TALK about DLC before the game is released. They should just put as much as they can into the game and then work on new content AFTER the game is ready to ship.

Unless they want to turn that Hype into Hate they should seriously consider making it ultra cheap or free.
