When I first clapped eyes on these Gears of War 1/2 comparison images, it struck me that this game rarely seems to release all that many galleries, relying primarily on trailers for promotion. While video always does a much better job than a still image, I think I know the real reason why Epic keeps the pictures away from the public -- they all look identical.
Outside of the single Horde image, these shots of the famous Gridlock level could hardly be told apart, as the mixture of grey colors -- now brown in the case of GoW2 -- and the exact same perspective conspire to create a perpetual feeling of deja vu. It doesn't help that they chose to release assets of a multiplayer map already available in the original Gears.
You know what, though? It doesn't matter, because I still expect this game to kick as much ass as the first one.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
You might want to look at any of the other... let's see... 60-70 screenshots released to the press, at least half of which are from the campaign?
One is grey, one is brown. :-)
I never realyl got GoW...played it coop for 2 hours with a buddy and I have never had the desire to play again.
there is some colour in it, the blue lights on the guns and armor
Yes, it's almost too much!
Don't you think this could be a bit of subconcious double standards on our part? We want games to be taken more seriously as experiences/art but then we want to be entertained and have pretty images to look at. I know I must have done this before.
count me FUCKING in
At least it's not like Fallout 3, however, which lacks both colors and excitement. Fallout 3 is a perfect example of how to make a gray game boring, while Gears of War is a perfect example of how to get away with just about gray everything.
Wow, way to push the envelope.
It'll always be Grays of War to me. Always.
