Gearbox working on Borderlands stat-wiping bug photo

News flash: there are bugs in Borderlands. People rocking the RPS have undoubtedly observed two or three. But while most of the issues don’t lay waste to the experience, this latest spotted by 1UP certainly does: players are losing all of their character stats -- weapon and action skills -- upon quitting out of joint games on all three platforms.

People reporting this nasty issue on the Gearbox official forums have received an answer instead of complete silence. A representative in one of the threads concerning this matter said the studio is examining the issue, but a fix isn’t ready.

“Your report has been heard and we’re working on it,” the rep said. “Unfortunately there isn't a fix just yet, but when one is available we hope to be able to repair as much of your character data as possible."

Considering Gearbox has already issued a response for the problem, we’ve been forced to ask someone else about the glitches in Borderlands. We’re expecting Ice T’s response in the near future.

I'm glad that I haven't come in contact with this bug yet, sounds like a shitty one.

I'll make sure not to join another co-op game with my 45 Siren then.

@Holyetheline Agreed. I'm just really impressed how fast gearbox is responding to the bugs, complaints, etc. It's nice to see a company actually confirm and work on fixing this stuff right away.

Man, I remember when this happened with Sacred 2. I think they narrowed it down to a problem with quitting out of a multiplayer game when it was trying to save data, which would corrupt the character data. Maybe it's something similar here. Hopefully they get it sorted! It would really suck if that happened.

It really isn't nearly as broken as it sounds, I have 5 or so friends with it (all on 360, I'll admit), but we've had nothing but a blast with it, no bugs whatsoever.

Yeah, the only real bug that I've encountered so far is getting a vehicle stuck in the landscape, but that can probably be attributed to my being a fucking terrible driver.

I've had nothing but a flawless experience so far, but I haven't tried co-op yet. I have no friends who have bought the game yet and I don't like playing games like this with strangers.

Hope they find the fix soon!!

You obviously havn't played the PC version. It's awful - those 10 extra days they had of "optimization" was a complete and utter lie. No one can join games and the game feels like a complete port from the 360 version (crappy driving, key setup, interfaces). Anyone beta-testing this game could have picked up these problems from 5 minute play-throughs.

I HAVE 0% RESPECT FOR GEARBOX ATM. ONLY DISAPPOINTMENT FROM BORDERLANDS SO FAR

@mabman Actually, I have had no problem hosting online games. In fact, I did yesterday, and there were no ill effects. If you feel it is a COMPLETE port, just use a 360 controller to play it. Otherwise, try and get used to it before blasting it as the worst game to ever come into existence after barely 24 hours of being released. Crap happens.

Anyhow, luckily, I have not come across this bug. That would be pretty bad, but as long as I keep my weapons I'm fine. Rocket-shooting shotguns and Fire-based Sniper Rifles being gone? I would rage...for a while.

It has been nothing but flawless for me at level 45 on my second playthru. This game is amazing. I have already wiped all of Fallout 3 and Oblivion from my drive as there is no need to every play those again and all my mmo's that I keep hanging on to for some reason on my pc. This game just rocks.

Just to start, I was a tester on this game before I was unceremoniously "let go". First of all 2k's testing department is a fucking joke. Half-wits are the leads and upper management is too concerned with getting blow-jobs from testers and letting those retards advance. This game had this bug in it when I left in August. It was a big enough bug but they still couldn't get it fixed. I really like this game but when you have retarded management managing retarded leads who manage retarded testers and you then let qualified testers go to save some money this is what you get. fuck 2k.

Reading this had better not have "cursed" me with getting this bug anytime soon. I would hate to put many hours into a character just for them to get wiped within seconds. At least Gearbox isn't ignoring the complaints. So far I only remember running into a bug where killing a boss monster didn't open up the exit gate for the area.

I know, how dare I as a lowly plebe of an employee who put effort and care into a job that was below my skill level express any disdain at a shitty company. I'm sorry I'll keep my place in society now and break more rocks. I guess I should state again that I love this game and get upset when they end product isn't allowed the proper time to develop and be a top quality game. My axe that I grind has to do with that but yes 2k is a shitty company to test for.

this is the best game thats came out this year so far imo, no issues yet.

however, being a higher or lower level than your friends, with the handicap gearbox put in,,, its just retarded. you have level caps on the eapons, no need for handicap on the chars, especially the lower level guys

@mabman i have had NO problems with boderlands, i am able to play co-op matches on LAN and online, no video issues, and the frame rate on my system is far and away better than the 360, flaming about how the game is so utterly a failure does nothing but show that either you have a shit computer, or dont know how to change the settings to get things to work

@RoninZero - Use a 360 controller?! I'm not even going to dignify that comment; I waited for the PC version for a reason. They have had months to prepare this game and it is unpolished and easily a port from the 360. They have left the community scrambling to fix THEIR game with 5 minute hacks; instead of doing their own job. In fact so many people started complaining about the PC release that the Borderlands forums began to crash multiple times throughout the day. CRAP as you eloquently put it, like this SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. It's not an MMO.

I read about this bug from people that were playing the game before offical release a week ago. Needless to say, I won't be playing online until a fix is in place. I'm fine with Single player for now...the game ROCKS!!!

I likewise have not encountered any serious bugs. But I haven't played online and I haven't even finished the game yet. I've gotten myself stuck in the terrain once, but that was after I got my vehicle stuck in the terrain and tried to bail and walk away. Also, I've fallen through some floors, but not through the map, for instance I'd fall through a platform I'm standing on, fall down the damn gorge I was standing over and have to walk my ass all the way around the map again to get where I was.

Maybe I am being a bit harsh; but still - PC version is a mess. Single player is alright; but I didn't buy it for the single player. As it stands, Borderlands has rust as a polish level, even the Anti-Aliasing doesn't work correctly.

yeah, single player, no bugs on my end. I'm making my friends come over to play the game. Hopefully they will like it and get hooked and then want to buy it so I can play with them. I really don't want to go online anymore to play this until a fix is in place. Or maybe I'll just go on with a brand new character so that if anything wipes i'll just be where I was 2 hours ago instead of a week ago.

@moop2000

I used to be a GM for SOE and I loved working there in the GM pit. Everything was laid back and really cool. I got laid off for REASONS and my supervisor got me into the testing department. 2k's testing department seems like it was just the same as SOE's. Although I quit to go work for my current employer (Financial Industry FTW, pays way better than testing ^__^) they were unresponsive to what I felt were valid bugs that should have been fixed. They were also dicking around with my contract and the end date. The temp company kept saying it was until december, the leads said end of october and the devs said they would need testers until mid september only. I'm guessing the really passionate testers feel the way you do everyday. I hear where you're coming from because it sounds like we had similar experiences for the most part.

I believe what you are saying is true about Borderlands. I, however, have not had problems and am having a blast with the game. I just have to balance it now with Ratchet and Clank since thats out today.

Ah well, anyone wanna take on a big boss in co op? Theres a secret achievement for it, lemme know if your on the right level or whatever.

First night I had the game I played for 3 hours via splitscreen with my roommate. Got my soldier to level 10. The next day he bought his own copy so we could play over XBL with another friend. Joined the game and I had lost all my weapon proficiency and talent points. To make things even more bizarre my roommate's character was perfectly fine.

Not the best start to the game, but haven't really ran into any problems since.
