Do you get it? Are you getting the thing that Gearbox has done? I really hope so, because that's the meta brilliance of the sexy Borderlands cover. The artwork, which I personally love, depicts one of the game's enemies holding his fingers to his head, pretending to blow his brains out. Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford says that this is because Borderlands "will blow your mind."
Now you see what they did there!
"The motive is about the goals of a box cover -- you want to evoke something, get attention and have something honest to say about the promise of the game," Pitchford adds. He also explains that there were reservation among Gearbox and 2K Games staff but, "Judging from the response so far, it looks like it was the right call."
The cover got a mixed reaction from the Destructoid community when we showed if off, with many praising its stylish aesthetic, while others found it too barren and empty. I happen to love the minimalist style that Gearbox chose to use. It's direct and classy, and very memorable without being too busy. What about the rest of you?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Okay, the tits can stay.
I like the cover art, but I do think it's a bit bare. The shading style on the character adds a lot of extra detail that is very missing from the background which I find a little odd.
Still better than 90% of game cover art these days.
Personally, I like minimalist ideas. They really can work REALLY well. I think this will be a perfect example soon. Gotta love this "you'll be blown away, we promise you that" symbolism.
Seriously, don't ask.
Looks good though, either way it is successful in raising further awareness.
though, if the game is just about mindless fps chaos in a barren wasteland, i'm a little concerned

I'm sure it will be banned in other countries. Just by passing judgment based only by the cover. Hence making the company make a whole new cover for those countries.
(( Which will suck less. IMO. ))
I think it will move lots of copies BUT... Then again, lots of people play Halo too. :)
Atleast this has some personality to it.
Awesome.
Today.
What about the box art for Left 4 Dead? Everyone seemed to love that and yet that was 40% just plain Green. What I'm trying to say is empty space isn't necessarily as bad as your average art teacher will try and convince you it is.
@Wheatspin
You want to know what to expect from the game then turn it over and read the text on the back.
It's sarcasm.
When they redesigned the art of the game, they are always talking about how awesome the game is and now the cover art.
They surely have a enthusiastic(and a little Molyneaux)PR team.
I do like the box art and will be buying the game, but goddamn Pitchford says some retarded shit.
But seriously, that logo is freaking awful. Completely uninspired choice of typography which just doesn't fit the setting,
