Plans to bring Homeworld 1 & 2 to digital platforms
Update: Along with Darksiders, Red Faction, and other THQ properties getting picked up by Nordic Games for a cool $4.9 million, it's come to light that Gearbox spent $1.35 million in acquiring Homeworld.
Borderlands developer Gearbox plans to release Homeworld and its sequel on digital platforms, but hasn't stated any intentions for console release or future sequels. Gearbox revealed that it was the highest bidder in the acquisition of the Homeworld franchise, created by Relic who lost the rights after publisher THQ folded.
"Brian Martel, Gearbox Software's Chief Creative Officer, has great love and respect for Relic's brilliant, fun and innovative game and personally spearheaded the acquisition," a Gearbox blog declared.
Gearbox doesn't have a history in the RTS genre, but I'm happy it's in someone's hands who is passionate about this highly influential PC franchise.
