GDC: Sony reveals first PS3 Move game collections photo

At its GDC press conference today, Sony revealed two PlayStation Move game collections, Sports Champions and Move Party

Sports Champions (working title) looks to be a sports-style game collection. Two games were shown off -- "Gladiator Duel" and "Table Tennis." "Gladiator Duel" is a one-on-one third-person fighter where you'll use two PS3 Move controllers -- one for shield, and one for sword (or in this case, a large hammer) controls. The one-to-one controls allow for what looked like relatively precise movements. "Table Tennis" was exactly what it sounds like... you play table tennis.

"Move Party" (working title) is another mini-game collection that uses "augmented reality" to put players "in the game." (How's that for buzz phrases?) Players will use the EyeToy camera to take pictures of themselves for an in-game icon, using the microphone to record a voice sample as well. We saw a few mini-games, each of which put a different object in the hands of the player, who appeared on the screen holding the item. A few games were shown off -- the player uses a racket to swap flies, a paint brush to paint shapes, and a fan to blow birds into nests.

From what I'm seeing here, these look like enhanced versions of things we've already seen on the Nintendo's Wii. Sony's giving us a chance to get our hands on it later, so we'll let you know how it feels once we get it in our hands.

I want to see actual titles to be shown later rather than implemented gimmicks.

I think it's looking pretty rad so far, but I need to see if motion controls can be used well outside the Nintendo zone.

@Monodi Those are games to be made later.

The first title that I know of is Move Party, Little Big Planet, Eye Pet 2, Socom 4.

If these titles are indicative of what is 1st party development then HD shovelware is a definite future for Move.

Oh I know it takes time to get baked, I just hope third party developers learn from the past and try to be a bit more creative.

So what exactly does Sony have to offer that can't be done with the Wii controls or even Natal ? By the looks of it, nothing.

It's been an excellent last few months for the PS3, with some eagerly awaited exclusives still to come, but this .. this is about as anticlimactic as it gets. I wanted something, ANYTHING, to get excited about from the GDC, but this is nothing but Move related stuff, which leaves me as apathetic as a bowl of soggy cereal. Damn.

INNOVATION!

Seriously, I'm hoping Sony and Microsoft have some much more impressive stuff to show at E3.

Also...
"Move Party
Move Sports
Move Fit
Move Sports Resort
Move Music

Anyone notice a trend?"

...I lol'd.

Hiltz: It's got the precision that Wii is lacking and the actual gameplay applications that Natal is lacking. I'm sure you think that same tired nonsense is a point of some sort, but it isn't.

LOL!, this is the point where every PS3 fanboy in the planet takes 1 of 2 stances:

A)They start whinning/complaining that Sony has allowed waggle and casuals into their H4RDC0R3 PS3 experience and ruined it.

B)Hypocritically praise Sony for smartly adding (read:blatantly copying) motion control to their H4RDC0R3 PS3 experience, overlooking the 4 years they mocked the Wii as a kid's toy and called it a passing fad.

Pretty much the afterthought I expected it to be. I knew this couldn't a good thing when I heard the Eyetoy people were getting involved.

For the record, the PS3's camera isn't the EyeToy -- It's the PlayStation Eye. :P

As for this, maybe if it comes with the controller, but I'm not buying it separately. So far, I don't think anything will top Wii Sports Resort.

Wow, so they're really going to just copy the Wii's casual success verbatim are they? A party game, and a Sports compilation game is the first two games that they show off for this thing. So much for it being for the hardcore gamers. What's next a fitness game? How is this anything different from what people have been playing on the Wii?

The graphics don't even look all that good, so its not like they can even use the whole "its like a Wii, but in beautiful HD" argument either. Well Good luck Sony, because you can copy Nintendo all you want, but you're not going to get the sale that they have. You won't even come close to it!

I really don't see how this will take people away from the Wii. If anything, it'll sell MORE because the initial investment is $400 instead of $200.
Really not seeing the logic here.

Crappy wii rip off announced, now with more crappy wii rip off goodness.

By god, not a single thing displayed here is original and ground breaking.

Fair play for Sony trying to catch the casual Market but let's be honest, there's nothing here that you can't already get from a wii and If you like these sorts of games then chances are you already own a wii (that's substantially cheaper than the ps3) that's proven to be the winner of this gaming trend.

Who wants to spend hundreds of pounds/dollars for a HD version of the wii?

Not I said the wolf.

Remember the ps3's original controller which was a crappy looking silver boomerang? Then when they saw the wii remote they just reused the ps2 controller with tilting. Not to mention that the ps1 controller is pretty much the snes controller. Now there's this crap. I can understand Sony not being creative, but if they were just honest and admit that they steal EVERYTHING then I'll have a little more respect for them.

As much as I think motion control is great (when done well) the games from videos I've seen look horrendously bad. I hope for sony's sakes they're just early versions because they looked about as fun as contracting an STD.

So the PS3 does the Wii better than the Wii itself, and still has great hardcore titles coming out by the dozens every year.

SOLD!
