According to THE INTERNET, Sony is planning to basically admit it's copying the Wii by revealing a Nunchuk attachment for its PS3 Wiimote. The Wiimote, codenamed "Arc" currently exists as a black stick with a pink ball on the end, looking like some sort of Satanic sex toy. Apparently, GDC will add a little bit more.
NeoGAF is the source of gossip, as it so often is, with one poster claiming he's seen the attachment with his very eyes. He claims that the nunchuk device has an analog stick with an X and O button beneath it, and a D-Pad under the rest of the input. L1 and L2 triggers are on the underside, presumably where C and Z are on the Wii nunchuk.
Until it's confirmed, this is a mere rumor, but it would make absolute sense. Just a remote would severely limit the potential for PS3 games, so it would only be natural that an attachment with more buttons and a stick would appear. There's no way Sony can avoid looking like a "me too" company if it unveils the thing, though.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, I only have 2 hands, and there are two wands with "Arc" already.
So yeah, they're going to have to get some serious plagiarisation on to get a Wiimote in there.
That's all i want is a Wii, with Montion plus built in, HD graphics and mature games. If I can do all that, without buying a new console, by simply buying an add on controller for my current console i'll be happy as a dog with two dicks.
Sony, bringing the Wii experience to gamers.
Microshaft, making a casual experience to try to snag some of nintendo's customers.
Nintendo, laughing all the way to the bank, driving to the bank in a car made of money, taking in it's cash in suitcases made of cash.
Also, expected attachment it expected.
Hell, Sony entered the gaming industry just because Nintendo ditched Sony at the last second, making Sony going all "me too!" just in anger.
Make a nun-chuck, which will increase the chance of this thing might actually be successful, god forbid.
If they pretend that this is a completely original idea, they'll just look like bigger douchebags than they already are.
What you are saying makes absolute no sense.
Nintendo releases Nintendo 64 with an analog stick and rumble pak.
Sony follows suit with TWO analog sticks and rumble.
Nintendo makes a successful handheld device.
Sony follows suit with their own offering.
Nintendo releases the Wii with motion control and pointer capability. Also, nunchucks.
Sony takes that exact concept and adds a glowing ball.
@Sir playedallot: He never makes sense.
what?
How can wanting a hd wii with mature games not make sense?
Sure, the bit about nintendo carrying money in suitcases made of money and cars makes no snese, but i wasn't supposed to.
Won't Resident Evil 5, Heavy Rain, and LittleBigPlanet support this ?
i'm going to have to back up Sexualchocolate on this, though there is no way the wii can do HD. you would need some sort of wiiHD console for that.
Although two dicks sounds terribly uncomfortable.
@pokota: Killzone 3 is rumoured to fully support the "arc", AAA enough for yea?
Dear God this is so ready to explode and hit EVERYONE with it's shrapnel. I'm going to go make popcorn for the next press release.
Now I've heard it all.
Sony are fine to copy the wii exactly because they are Sony, but if microsoft make something innovative they are doing it to snag nintendo customers.
...wait, what?
As it was I could only really see it working with augmented reality games due to the lack of movement controls. If it works well with action games and they actually use it for that type of game I may be tempted to get a ps3.
There are some exclusives building up that are almost making it worth getting a ps3 just for them.
I'm also interested to see the response from razer and valve with the pc motion controller they are working on. Its claimed they use low power magnetic fields and can sense 6 axis with 1mm precision and ultra low latency.
All you want is a HD Wii with mature games on the one side. Tollerating, no even Supporting Sony with blatantly ripping of the nintendo waggling wonder. And with the same breath your praising Sony, you damn M$ for trying to make his own waggling, waving device(it even hasnt a nunchuck).
Sounds like a big fat warm pile of Fanboy Bullshit to me!
Tell me what Natal is copying, and then tell me what Sony is doing differently with this obvious cash-in on the success of the wii
Also, I want a unicorn that shits chocolate candy bars. That'll happen about the same time all of SexualChocolate's dreams come true...
Defending either company is useless. They're both attempting to take what their competitors have done further. Nothing wrong with that mind you. Don't get caught in the fanboy frenzy.
Patri-idiotic Snake
That makes much more sense to me right now! You forgott to mention Jim sterling is a fat stinking xbot and EVERY PS3 game is worth 11/10!
One of the funniest things S.C. has ever said.
Jesus christ.
The Wii uses infrared technology, LEDs, and an accelerometer.
Invented by the Germans, the English, and the Russians respectively.
The EyeToy was buggy as hell. The PS3 EyeToy ceased support within 2 years of it's release.
Ya know I want to leave you alone Snake and just ignore you like so many others who roll through here but you make it so easy I feel obligated.
Are you railing against how Microsoft is doing it specifically, or do you just despise the entire concept?
I just think it's bleeding edge. I can still dream though:

A coherant, thought out argument supporting Sony and denouncing microsoft, even I'm getting a little bored of typing them let alone anyone who disagrees having to read them!
My honest view on the Natal/Arc issue is that, despite Arc being already done, kinda, but without a camera and without HD and without Mature games (bar a couple of great titles that sold like shit covered raisins), it's definitely there to enhance the experience of Sony customers.
Sony is not expecting to sell PS3's on the back of the Arc. They simply want to sell the Arc and it's compatible games to it's current PS3 userbase. To enhance the experience we already have.
Microsoft simply want to sell more Xboxes to people who bought Wii's touting it as the next step up from a Wii, when to me, as a gamer, it looks bloody silly and pretty damn pointless. Sure, facial recognition in a normal controller game is, uh, interesting, kinda. But I don't want minor gimmicky motion-type controlls and facial recognition in my controller required games!
I want core controller required games, and i also want some sword swinging, gun pointing, bow and arrow firing games with solid, market proven, motion controls.
The Wii, for someone like me, (OPINION TO FOLLOW NOT GLOBAL FACT) is shit. It's got a really interesting, really fun and useful control scheme completely squandered on piss poor games, fucking terrible graphics and poor online setup. Sure it get's the odd good game, but nothing worth buying a Wii for.
However if Sony can bring the controls from the Wii to a mature audience, with some of their trademark AAA games and solid online system. I'm all for it.
I'm all for Microshaft proving me wrong (have fun trying to make me admit it though!) but i personally have zero interest in playing my normal games but having my expression put onto my digital avatar, or having to turn my head (away from the screen?!?!) to look around in game. Don't even get me started on sitting with my arms held out pretending to steer a car!
I think this cant be a real person. That dumb, blindet, ignorant and intolerant is no real human beeing with brains. Even Al-Qaeda isnt that fanatic!
The Wiimote also uses Bluetooth.
Thanks for passing my day people, it's been fun. See you tomorrow.
I'm off home now to play some Bad Company 2, come play with me! PSN: Foolishbean69
GC controller has the same setup up as a dualshock controller, not like nintendo was ripping off the idea, just utilizing something that isnt broken
Also, the "ripping off" talk is getting ridiculous. There is no successful corporation that would not borrow someone else's innovation to improve their own product. This is a good thing, as it leads to refinements, improvements, and escalating competition. We WANT game consoles to keep evolving.
