I saw the same demo during the GDC. Ridiculously stoked for this. Not sure if the Piranha guys mentioned it to you, Dan, but the game is following real-word calendar dates. So, there's a reason the game is set in 3049 - in August 3050 the Clans invade the Inner Sphere! So that means at least four new factions to join (Jade Falcon, Wolf, Ghost Bear, Smoke Jaguar) in addition to the Inner Sphere Houses, and at least 16 Omnimechs.
This, MechWarrior Tactics, and Firefall are probably the only F2P games I'd ever consider actually spending real money on. So incredibly excited.

I really like what I've seen of this so far. If they keep the micro-transactions and whatnot fair and balanced, this could turn out great.
Quick question: is the release date of "Super 2012" supposed to be "Summer 2012" or is there a better 2012 that's i'm not aware of?
People should check out MechWarrior: Living Legends, a mostly-complete-mod on the Crysis engine featuring combined arms combat in the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe. MWO will go for a more action/arcade arena fighter it seems. Not bad, it's still a Mechwarrior game, and God knows we can't be picky about those since they're rarer than space-sims.

I don't think it's a *good* business decision. Both teams have probably lost my money, anyway. And I think that f2p, like regular mmos, has a limited player pool to attract - MMOs are a commitment, people don't play more than one usually. There is only room for so many of them out there, and if you aren't the best and well promoted you might as well forget it.

yeah same here totally bummed out that mech games are f2p. I like to play alot of games not sink all my time in one game

The Atlas is an Innersphere mech, a 500 year old Star-League era one too.
It has the dubious honor of ironically being designed by the Clan's founder and one of the few Star-League era mechs not to receive an IIC variant (clan revision) primarily because no Atlas pilots were part of the Clan's founding due to "disagreeable terms".
So while the mech is more bark than bite it has a lot of iconography as a 500 year old middle finger the Innersphere gives to the Clans.

Well according to the Mechwarrior Online and contrary to swiftdraw you *will* see Clan Mechs.
To quote from the site:
A. MechWarrior® Online™ is running an offset timeline of the BattleTech® Universe. As of this writing it is 2011 and the year is 3048 within the game. In 2012, when the game is launched, it will be 3049.
3049 is the date of the Clan Invasion but do note you will probably not see the post Clan-war mechs seen in Mechwarrior 4 such as Uziel, Thanatos, Chimera, Hellspawn and so on, but you will definitely should see some fan favorites from Mechwarrior 1, 2, Mercs and 3.
Here's a list of Battlemechs. Anything 3050 and before could show up.

I would like a new MechAssault game for Xbox, that's what I thought this game was at first until I looked it up and remembered it was called MechAssault...not Mechwarrior.
