Does seem odd to make any kind of deal out of him taking his mask off when most of his costumes in DOA have him completely bare-faced.
But still, hurrah. I've actually not liked that last two NG games but I hope without Itagaki they might get around some of the poorer design decisions and this might turn out good.

Great news! I am almost positive that this will be leagues ahead of the new DMC. Truly technical action games are too far and few between, so this is a very welcome announcement. I hope it's announced soon, though I'll likely just wait for Ninja Gaiden Sigma 3.
Asura's Wrath, Anarchy Reigns, and now NG3! Sounds like a bright future for Action game fans! Platinum Games better be working on a Bayonetta 2 as well!

Ryu wasn't originally a "masked" ninja in the Nes games. Always made me wonder why they made a big deal about not showing his face.

Well that trailer sucked! I love me some ninja gaiden though, and as someone said above me whats the deal about unmasking? You can see his face easy in DOA4...
I saw his chin, his left ear, a tiny but of his hair and a bit of his lip! There is no mask underneath his mask. :(
But I dunno what to expect of this game; I loved the first one and never actually completed the 2nd (ashamed). So I hope it's going to be great.
