GDC 10: Take a gander at MI: SE 2: LeChuck's Revenge photo

Developer LucasArts isn’t settling for the same list of features for the second Special Edition release of their coveted Monkey Island franchise. In a conversation with me earlier this afternoon during the debut event, Lucas producer Craig Derrick said all should expect a few subtle additions on par with the Spiffy the dog insert in MI: SE.

Of course, that’s on top of the core set of new features that might make the more memorable, perhaps reflective piece. It was suggested at the event that one feature in particular, the developer commentary, might star Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert. If that happens, it'll put me in tears harder than that time I spotted a Armani jacket on sale.

If MI: SE 2 is a thing you want to see, look no further than the gallery. Or wait until the game hits every platform under the sun this summer. Your choice.

Oh man, this means they'll probably remake 3 as well. Love the Monkey Island games.

So much better than the special edition for MI1! (which I still bought several copies of)

@ KingSigy

3 is a much different proposition with the animation and all... it still looks good, just low-res. If they have the original elements and release a higher res version that would be awesome, but a complete remake would be a bad idea in my opinion.

As for the screens, it looks just like the original SE, which is fine. I enjoyed it.

Excellent news. Monkey Island 2 is a much harder game to update than the first. It's way bigger, has a massive musical score and a lot more dialogue. But from the looks of it it they've really risen to that challenge, and I absolutely can't wait. It's one of my favourite games of all time. LucasArts only ever topped it with Grim Fandango.

God was I skeptical when they announced this. Monkey Island 2 is by far my favourite in the series. Was awaiting total butchery. But this looks actually pretty decent, much closer to the style of the original.

Hopefully they will feature original graphics with dub this time.

Here's to hoping they put in the one feature I found myself wanting in the first...being able to listen to the new voice acting over the old graphics.

What ArrestedDeveloper said.
Also, after this, it is my humble opinion that MI4 is in much greater need of a remake than 3 as 3 still fine (played it through very recently) and 4 is a travesty (me and a friend hardly got anywhere at all before giving up in frustration over the controls).

@StingingVelvet

I still play this game whenever I feel down. It is just so awesome and hilarious and the graphics still last with that hand drawn look.

A pirate life is the life for me, trim the sails and roam the sea... continue this fellow nerds.

YES YES YES YES I knew it was only a matter of time. YES. Just stop at 3 though, m'kay? Let's forget 4 exists.

What 4? Let's just pretend it was like the Leisure Suit Larry series (Bonus cookie points for anyone that gets that reference).
