Harmonix and MTV Games have taken the week of GDC to premiere and drop some of the final details on the upcoming Green Day: Rock Band, which is set to his shelves on June 8.
From the looks of things, Green Day is getting a similar treatment to The Beatles, with a game that includes many of the same features. Three part harmonies have made the cut, and players can unlock 100 collectibles images and 40 minutes of rare video and performances as they work through Green Day's 20-plus-year career.
The game will ship with 47 tracks (fully exportable for Xbox 360 and PS3 for a small fee). At a party last night where the game itself was premiered, five of game's songs were revealed: "Brain Stew/Jaded," "Hitchin' A Ride," "American Idiot," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." I'll admit that I'd be more excited about Naked City's Torture Garden: Rock Band, but it was surprising how many of these songs I knew note for note. It didn't take much to get an entire room full of people tapping and singing along, which is a good indicator that the songs are a great fit for this style of game.
Green Day: Rock Band will be available in a few flavors. Standalone disc games for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii were a given. But a Green Day: Rock Band Plus will also be made available for Xbox 360 and PS3, and includes special packaging (shown in our gallery), free of charge song export, and six Green Day tracks via DLC.
June should be a good month for Green Day fans; everyone else can continue to whine about how Green Day is getting a game, and patiently wait for more news on Rock Band 3.
I was hoping this was all an elaborate joke.
It sucks that the only way we'll probably be able to get any of these songs is to buy the disc and export. I mean, I like some Green Day, but certainly not enough to buy a whole goddamn game about them.
I will be looking forward to playing their older stuff. I wonder how far back they will go. I'd love to play 2000 Light Years Away.
Hopefully it'll be just a slip over cover with the original game.
Nice pick of a song. That and Paper Lanterns would be awesome in Rock Band.
Oh well, at least if more people buy this there'll be more money for Harmonix to make a Rock Band dedicated to a band I actually like.
@Slick Icarus: Cut Your Hair is Guitar Hero 5 DLC.
But Green Day? I have nothing against their music, but this seems like Rock Band is following in the footsteps of Guitar Hero, and that is not good. If they want to release a Green Day track pack with a bunch of Green Day songs, then I would support that. But a new game with just Green Day songs? I'm not buying it.
seriously harmonix?
This is starting to look pretty good though. I'm not much of a Green Day fan, but I love some of their earlier stuff, and Jesus of Suburbia is awesome. They probably won't give as much love as they did for the Beatles, but Harmonix are still putting a lot of love into the game, unlike a certain game (Van Halen).
The people bitching that this isn't their favourite band should shut up. No matter what band they chose, people will bitch. Yeah, I would have preferred Pink Floyd, or Led Zeppelin, but I'm happy that they're giving more modern bands this kind of treatment. And Green Day is the perfect band to do. They have a diamond selling album (Dookie), and they had huge success again with American Idiot. People will call them crap, but so what? People will think your favourite band is crap too.
Again, at least a thousand seperate comments from a thousand seperate members back at RB forums have been begging for this. If you truly believe the music genre is dying and only the hardcore still play anymore than you've actually found the reason why this game exist. Not why it shouldn't.
Are they ever going to come out with a band that's super hard to play?
Anyway, I'm honestly surprised people are bitching so much about this game's existence. This is essentially a track pack with better production values. If this was released as DLC, no one would complain, but because it also gets a retail release and special graphics, it's suddenly a problem. Just don't buy it and let the rest of us who grew up hearing it on the radio enjoy playing the songs come June. They're not my favorite band, but it is better than playing certain other songs in my extensive Rock Band collection at parties where no one knows the words.
Will do! :D :D :D
Well... I do like Green Day. I just don't think they should have their own game. If Aerosmith, Metallica, and the Beatles don't do as well as hoped then why would anybody think Green Day is a good idea? :\
The only time I think this worked was the AC/DC disc, and that's only when it dropped to $20. (or in my case, $10 at a boxing day sale)
I'd perfer Smashing Pumpkins track packs as opposed to more stand alone single band games.
like lots of others have said Smashing Pumpkins wouldve been much better
of course, playing real instruments trumps all that.
THREE FUCKING CHORDS! How boring!
Did they get tired or something? "The good music is SO hard to chart because there are so many notes! Let's take these jackasses that stupid people listen to and make them a game because its easy!"
Lame, Rock Band can kiss my ass.
I think more people prefer songs that sound good over songs that are hard to play. No offense.
There's two Megadeth albums though. C'mon. And a Yngwie Malmsteen pack. Surely that could keep you busy for a few months.
When is the U2 version of Rock Band or Guitar Hero coming out that was rumored earlier.
I don't hate Green Day. They're okay in my eyes. But I don't think they should have their own game.
Also, Day one purchase of this game.
The Beatles are overrated.
Also, Day one purchase of this game."
Wow. Just wow. Is this intentional trolling, or just a side effect of bad taste?
Seconded.
I'd love to see one for Nirvana as well.
Who owns Nirvana's rights now?? Is it still mainly Courtney Love, or did she trade them all away for more heroin??
No, I'm not a fan.
