They look good, but they're far from great.
Not saying anything looks better, but those graphics are nowhere near as amazing as everyone says they are. Yeah, they're good, but everything could be a lot better. God Of War 3, from everything I've seen, played and experienced just looks like an HD remake of God of War 2. I don't get why it's such a big deal, nor did I get the huge 'zomg' reaction behind Uncharted 2's graphics.
Yeah, I'm trolling because I don't bow down to God of War. Shut up, dumbass. I'm stating my opinion, and my opinion is the graphics aren't this godlike fucking creation that everyone makes them out to be. And if you would actually think (a concept for you, I'm sure) before commenting, you'd realize that you can still be good at something, but not the best. Just because there is nothing to compare it to doesn't automatically mean you're the greatest at what you do. If a Pinto were the most reliable car on the market, would it be the best car just because you had nothing to compare it to? You sir, are an idiot, which every one of your moronic comments fully displays. You can't even make a logical comment without bashing someone else or the topic itself. I didn't realize having an opinion made you a troll now. I guess were all trolls to you, unless we agree with you.
Fuck off already.
Every now and then, especially when I'm tired.
I also played Yakuza 3 earlier...which left me craving Japanese food and full of rage. Probably not healthy.
I'm a bit dizzy too.
I never thought Final Fantasy 13 looked that great til I popped it into my ps3 and saw it on my 40' Bravia. I'm pretty sure this is going to be the same way.
Let's hold off judgment until we actually play the game ourselves! Crazy fucking concept, right?
To be fair graphics are the one thing you can probably judge without playing the game most of the time. If it looks better when I play the game than that's all fine and dandy but I think graphics are an exception to the "Wait and see," policy.
I mean it's graphics. Not that hard to judge.
I'll point out that I wasn't impressed with Crysis either (and not impressed with Crysis 2). So maybe I'm just a fickle bitch.
Thanks for being my stand-in, Panda.
I agree, I'm not judging the game or the graphics, just giving my opinion. I'm not trying to say the game or the graphics suck, I just think they're getting a little too over hyped. And really, that statement works both ways...how does everyone know the game looks so amazing if it's not out? Based on the comments of one person (and we all know this is somewhat subjective)? And screenshots? Anyway, point made, I do agree we shouldn't judge. I may come off as judgemental, but it's not intentional.
You're not wrong at all. I should elaborate. Look at all the video reviews on GoW3. If you you've watched a few than by now you'll probably notice how they all show the same footage. Basically stuff that has been in trailers that we've already seen. That being said, GoW is doing a lot of technically impressive stuff with scale and 'camera' work that most people haven't even gotten a glimpse of. If you played Uncharted 2(arguably the most graphically impressive game of last year), you'll remember most of the breath taking moments in that game were very subtle. A loud, abrasive, explosive game...with touches of subtlety. Don't be surprised to see the same thing here.
my copy looks far better than the E3 demo, as I assume this is all you have to fairly compare it to.
In my opinion, it tops all other "graphic whore" games out there. Not just the graphics, but the details, the amount of things happening at once in extreme complexity, fantastic animations and backgrounds...
I can't gush enough. I am a GoW fanboy, though. Take it as you will.
Renagade Panda and x1251 should be more like Revariance.
Stop putting words in my mouth, first off. I NEVER said anything you're saying I did, you're blowing my statement out of proportion. I'm saying they look good, but could look better. How is that a 'mindfuck' at all? Things don't have two levels of being, shit is more complex than that. Saying something is great (or whatever term) means it has to have some standard of quality above the average, which IMO, God Of War does not. You can only make a point by misinterpreting my comment, which is beyond stupid. Now shut the fuck up, if anyone here is a troll, it's you. My comment wasn't designed in the least to piss anyone off, you were the only one who even gave a shit enough to take it seriously. It's people like you that ruin this site, I'm sorry but you rank up there with Birthmark and other assholes that post for no reason other than to say something or someone sucks. Get the fuck out of here, will you?
That being said, GoW is doing a lot of technically impressive stuff with scale and 'camera' work that most people haven't even gotten a glimpse of.
Yeah that's where I'm expecting to be impressed. Not with how the game looks but with how it handles itself technically.
It's a mother fucking God of War game on a mother fucking PS3 for Christ sakes.
@RenegadePanda
Some things are just not worth getting stressed about. Case in point.
To be blunt, graphics are no longer worth the investment. Either make them perfect, as in indistinguishable from reality, or make them pretty. But whatever they do, they shouldn't go for what video games consider realism, because right now video game characters look like plastic. Incredibly, incredibly detailed and expensive plastic that isn't human nor particularly appealing. And somehow, I doubt doubling the graphics with the God of War style would convince anyone that they are actually there though.
Please, please make a game where a golem like that looks like it actually exists before my eyes as a moving mountain rather than having the obvious give-aways of video game objects. Make a game I confuse for national geographic or history channel if the graphics are going to be upped.
I'm aware of the term, and I would agree if I thought that was the end goal. I saw a baseball game on the PS3 that nearly scaled the other side, and that impressed me because it took me a while to realize it wasn't an actual baseball game (don't remember the name, it was a gamestop demo). And Avatar the movie also beat the uncanny valley, though admittedly, gaming tech isn't there. But right now, these developers are deliberately doing things that mean no amount of tech could beat it's way up and convince me it's real. People are not shiny. Reality doesn't define depth nearly as well as a video game. And the features of most objects are not that defined. The most graphically intense PS3 games are actually overshooting reality, which I find disappointing because I know it is possible to get much closer, I've seen it done with baseball.
No more shiny, no more detail, no more sharp distinguishing. There is too much flash in video games for me to confuse television and virtual reality, which makes the top everyone is racing towards something other than the most realistic graphics.
Maybe they just want the most expensive graphics?
Most reviews seem to be saying similar things, such as "the visuals are uneven, at times they're the best you've ever seen and at other times they're just good"
That's pretty much the impression I got from the demo, for what it's worth. You guys need to relax and just get ready for Tuesday.
I agree, alien sex scenes were unnecesary and unhelpful.
I don't know how much of a difference watching the movie in 3D versus 2D is. I watched it in 3D, and it was completely impossible for me to tell where CGI began and reality ended. On second thought, you're right it didn't beat the uncanny valley. At all. The aliens looked human enough to be unsettling, but that's mostly an issue with the character rather than the technology.
What I liked about Avatar was that I could not tell reality from CGI, and I think games should emulate that graphically. But yeah, don't emulate alien love interests.
I agree about games looking "better" than reality. There's a crispness that unnatural about most things current gen. There's a lack of atmospheric visuals most the time. It seems like things are too "dimensional", for lack of a better term. There's a absence of visual tactility for me: grim, dust, fog, and wind. Most graphics still seem static to me. Unmoving. Unbelievable.
Off hand, some visuals that have impressed me recently, in a tactile way (if that makes any sense) are Final Fantasy XIII and Bad Company 2. I remember staring through my sniper scope in Bad Company 2 (on PC) and seeing trash blow by. It looked real to me, the way it drifted and spun through the air. Little touches like that are nice. In Final Fantasy XIII, every once in a while there's a texture I feel like I could reach out and touch. Sazh's coat in particular tends to mesmerize me. It has a look of starchiness to me that makes me feel it whenever I see it.
I think that small touches like that, more than anything else, are what game designers need to pay attention to.
They look kinda gamey if you ask me. Shiny, detailed, but mostly just improvements over old styles rather than a great leap into realism.
@ RenegadePanda - Responding angrily only makes you seem unintelligent.
@ Griven - I LOVE when there's a texture with that "reach out and touch" feel. If there's enough of those in Versus XIII, I might have to buy myself a Playstation 3.
@x1251
If a Pinto were the most reliable car on the market, would it be the best car just because you had nothing to compare it to?
Perfectly good comparison here... oh, what's this?
x1251
If the Pinto is the only care on the market, that would mean IT IS THE BEST, Because obviously there are no other cars that fucking work, you retard.
Ummm... http://www.thereisnothingtosaytothis.com
To be honest, I never looked up exactly what troll meant until just now and sir, you fit the bill. I think it's about time to close up shop...
But wait, what's this? Doth my eyes deceive me?

@Rentagay Panda
You're not a very bright person, so don't front like you are. The Pinto metaphor made this abundantly clear to everyone reading.

Case Closed
Still, anyone who has not played the final game cannot say a damn thing about the graphics until they have seen it with their own eyes, playing it at its optimal settings. You can't trust pictures let alone video quality on the internet or your computer. Your monitor is not your TV (except in rare cases) and the graphics card is not a PS3. Even the GoW pictures that you can download off of the PSN do not compare to the game in motion.
I say don’t judge things until you’ve tried them (Unless they’re people, that’s a different story).
... but they do only go 50-60% of the way they can with the engine, the engine that's only possible on PS3.
Your butthurt is showing Panda. ; )
I have to agree with someone above, Bad Company 2 looks fantastic, it's not that textures and animations are flawless, it's when you can see the sunlight coming through the trees, or the trash blowing around, or the dust from a near by explosion.
it just feels real, despite not being teh bestest grafix in teh wurld!
