GDC 08: Liveblogging the Microsoft Keynote photo

As the mmm-tsss-mmm-tss of the obligatory pre-keynote music dies down, I'm preparing to find proper/reliable internets to liveblog Microsoft's Keynote here at the 2008 Game Developers Conference.

Bear with us while we fight for a decent connection.

10:34 -John Schappert CVP of MS is speaking of his gaming experience, begining with his roots at Tiburon. Says Desert Strike for SNES was his first first job; pronounces SNES as "sehnezzz."

Also, Madden '94. 

10:36 - JS speaks on how 2007 was a record year for games, pointing out that the games business has exceed the music buisness. Says that more Xbox 360s are in the pipeline to meet demands. 

10:38 - Microsoft bragfest: JS cites million-sellers like Rock Band, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, Oblivion, BioShock, Orange Box, and Halo 3 for their successes. Also says that they have the most 90-plus rated titles on Metacritic - 11 titles versus PS3's 4 titles.

JS says that over $250 million has been spent online - Live.

Also, Achievements are big! 

10:40: A video is running now, letting Xbox 360 developers talk about why they love Xbox 360 and Live.

10:45 - Poker Smash made by three guys with scraped together cash? wow.

10:47 - Chris Satchell comes on stage to talk about XNA. Now showing a video starring James Silva and his game The Dishwasher. Funny video co-stars Major Nelson. Now we're seeing footage of some co-op multiplayer. Looks fun as hell.

10:54 - Xbox Live Community Games will be launched this year. 

10:58 - now we're discussing

360's 31 under 50 metacritic scores compared to PS3's 7 is the part of the story he's not telling you. i went there too!! not anti-360 or anything, just wanted to take a dump on the guy's chest. is for fun

I wonder if Gears 2 will have better multiplayer than the first? 'Cause if there is still such consistent bullshit going on in that game constantly, I likely won't play much of the multi.

I hate that James Silva is working for MS now. :( Fuck The Dishwasher, I want my Survivor Crisis Z 2! His resume on his site says he was working on it before his XNA contract came up and he started working on The Dishwasher. D:

Also, of Rock Band, Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, Oblivion, BioShock, Orange Box, and Halo 3, only one of those is an MS exclusive. It's not exactly good bragging material.
