GC 10: Might & Magic Heroes VI announced photo

Might & Magic fans will be glad to hear that the development of the next in the franchise has been announced. Black Hole Entertainment's Might & Magic Heroes VI will come to Windows PC in 2011.

The Might & Magic Heroes VI adventure starts 400 years before the events in Heroes of Might & Magic V: A legendary Archangel general killed during the war of the Elder races returns to life with a vengeance. Under the cover of preparations for an upcoming Demon invasion, he unites the peoples of Ashan to eradicate his ancient enemies. However, he underestimates the power of the all too human dynasty of the Griffin Dukes.

This is a turn-based strategy RPG with extra-large maps. They say that the gameplay was "remasterized" by the developer with the help of the franchise's fans. A new reputation system will let you choose your path and customize your experience.

I just cheered!

Here's to hoping it doesn't have UbiSuck's DRM!

@coldalarm:

Good point. If this doesn't have the 'always online' DRM I'll buy two copies. If it's DRM crippled, I'll most likely resort to less than honorable methods. It's a great game to play while on the road, where internet is a luxury.

RUSE just lost its DRM so its high chance they will stop using it.

@amtalx; That's my only worry, really, although I won't crack it - I'll simply just not buy it.

Nice to see UbiSuck giving us a Might & Magic game, though, after the console/handheld thing I've not played and the port of that Eastern game they renamed HoMMO (lawl).

This looks almost the same as V, and it's probably developed by some shitty eastern European studio no one's ever heard of again :/

According to Gamespot (sorry D-Toid):
"The game will be developed by Budapest-based developer Black Hole Entertainment, maker of Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and Warhammer: Battle March."

Yes, Eastern developers. Woooooo! :D

I wish it were legal to pirate a game to sidestep DRM, but send a check to the developers. Developers always deserve to be compensated for their work, but publishers always seem to cock it up with DRM. Unfortunately, there's no way to support developers while telling the publishers to go fuck themselves.

Does Destructoid have anyone on staff that plays PC strategy games? The articles always sound so sterile. Just curious.

YES!!
HoMM is easily my most beloved PC game series ever.
Since HoMM 2 I´ve sunken countless hours into it...

Although I highly doubt Heroes 3 will ever get surpassed, I am certainly looking forward to the sixth entry. While the fourth one was clearly worse IMO the 5th part was definitely fantastic again.

Now it all comess down to the question of ***ing DRM *crosses fingers*

Ah, HoMM, I'm so fond of this games, up to the 4th installment, never played the fifth, was it any good?

I just re-bought the HoMM 3 complete from GOG, and despite been a 10+ years old game, I still enjoy it.

Can't they just remake HOMM3 with better graphics?

HOMM5 took too long with all the damn battle animations and the art style didnt sit with me right.
