This one is quite a touchy subject. One could argue that this is a big case of retro goggles but all of us (well, most of us) love the original GoldenEye for the N64 and remember it fondly. A big pack of balls is needed to take on the re-imagining of a game like this.

After watching a demo and having hands on session with the game I talked to Eurocom's James Lodato about this subject and asked him how it was to work on the game. This is the first time that a James Bond story is re-imagined in modern time and that's pretty cool isn't it?

Um, no this Goldeneye remake isn't the first re-imagining of a James Bond story. The Daniel Craig version of Casino Royale was a re-imagined version of the original book, and there was also a Peter Sellers version of Casino Royale which was more of a comedy. Then there's also the unofficial Thunderball remake (Never Say Never Again) which also featured Sean Connery. Sorry, just had to say.

Am I the only person that is bothered when people refer to N64 game or PSX game as "retro?"

@Silent

I guess its just you, unless I'm mistaken isn't the n64/ps1 two generations behind of gaming?

considering them compared to games like now, they would be retro.

Goldeneye was okay, multiplayer was good, but I like Perfect Dark so much better.

It still doesn't seem very old to me either. Many new handheld games are made in the style of N64 or PS1 games. If I end up playing with the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on my 3DS next year it won't feel retro to me... even with the 3D off. So while I may feel nostalgic about those games... at least in my mind they don't feel retro. The barrier between 2D games to 3D was so big that I think it's going to be a bit longer for that particular generation to reach the level of retro for me.

I don't know guys, this looks pretty retro to me, and kind of ugly.

@idrawrobots - But OOT isn't that far removed from Twilight Princess in its style of play, it just looks prettier. Metal Gear Solid doesn't feel far removed from MGS4. And various takes on these styles of game are rather commonplace. Okami also follows the style strongly

Retro is arcade gaming and 2D games. Most of the people who started with PSX and N64 and especially those after have never set foot inside an arcade unless it was for DDR. If it were just about the age of the game anything past 10 years old could be considered retro

I know the kids want to feel included in the retro thing, have their own retro, but for a lot of us Playstation and N64 still isn't "old school" yet.

And just so no fanboy silliness comes up... no, that is actually from the Playstation 3 version.

@GoggleKnocker LOL, that is terrible, I think OoT might have better ground textures than that FF XII screen shot.

Loved the original, still think this is completely unnecessary of a game.

Also you are one skinny man.

@Healed1337 that's right! But have you seen the first casino royale?
It's not really a feature film and up until the new one came out, it was never really seen as a "real" bond movie. I'm a huge James bond fan and even I didn't really know about it.
GoldenEye on the other hand is the movie that put Pierce Brosnan on the map as bond, so definitely on of the major ones!

I think it's about time that we can start calling some first person shooters retro.
Doom, quake and yes GoldenEye are so different from what we play now. This becomes really obvious when you play Metro 2033 or Serious Sam HD.
People don't make games like quake 3 anymore and when they do it feels old, gameplay wise.
RetroforceGO said it really nicely in one episode, retro has nothing to do with age, it is how the game feels to the player.

I loved Goldeneye on the N64 (one of the few N64 games I ever played) but I'm not interested in this at all. Shame really.
