Creative Assembly's Total War franchise has always been about large-scale battles, but the latest in the long line of strategy games is going for a more personal approach. Napoleon: Total War retells the French general's battles in Italy, Egypt, and Moscow from both his point of view as well as his opponent's.
This of course means you could theoretically rewrite history, which is always a cool thought. The game won't be ready until February of next year, so for now, all we're getting is a teaser, albeit a badass one. Hit the jump for the video, or check out the gallery for three in-game screenshots.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

As much as the freedom offered in normal historical strategy games is nice, I always feel that some direction would keep me interested over the long term.
Also, that's some amazing animation on Napoleon in that trailer, even if he doesn't look quite the same as artistic depictions of him. There better be more cutscenes of him in the game.
In Italy and Egypt he was a general.
During the War of the Second Coalition he was First Consul.
Then, for the rest of his campaigns he was Emperor.
That being said, when you use the broader definition of "general" to be "overall commander of an army during a campaign/battle", Napoleon continued to play that role even while he was Emperor.
umm, russia couldn't be tamed. if napoleon didn't learn his lesson, he could have asked hitler about his attempt. also, nap's animation has way too much hair. outside of that, well done.
Empire Total War had BIG issues at release.
6 months of patches had to go by for a stable game, huge bummer for all of those people that bought the game.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
