GC 09: Sony's accurate motion controllers to be shown at TGS photo

Back at E3 2009, Sony unveiled its motion-detecting controllers. Looking a little like a dildo with a glowing sphere on top, it was promised that the controller could detect the full range of 3D motion and replicate movement nearly 1:1. And Sony isn’t kidding. In a tech video shown during the publisher’s press conference at gamescom it was stated that the controllers had sub-pixel accuracy.

The rest of the video stressed precision and showed the controller in a variety of 1:1 situations. It’s easy to guess what Wii peripheral (hint!) Sony is targeting with its early marketing to the press.

House said that the forthcoming motion controllers would be shown off again at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. We'll be there and eager to play with them if we get the chance.

Oh, my, god.

I can't believe this is actually happening...

Didn't Nintendo patent this shit?

I am actually pissed off right now.

Sony Exec #1 - "Whats the most popular console?"
Exec #2 - "The Wii"
Exec #1 - "Whats it's gimmick?"
Exec #2 - "Motion control"
Exec #1 - "Dude... I've just had the BEST idea!"

This is fucking ridicolous. I can't believe it... I'm bloody angry! Sony, why must be such a bunch of monumental cock suckers?

@Nathan

It will fail like the PS3 eye toy did, no worries. Sony copies everything possible and is a very unoriginal company.

"Sub-pixel accuracy"? That doesn't even make sense.

It's not honorable to rip off Nintendo but if it makes them money it sure will be a smart move... but nothing I approve of.

@Dexter

I think sub-pixel accuracy refers to the detection of movements that translate to on-screen motions smaller than a pixel. In other words, they're bragging about things my mouse already does better, and for less money.

Also, this thing looks like an ergonomic nightmare. I mean, it's a freakin' mo-cap ball on a stick that looks like a dildo. Who wants to bet Sony can't include rumble functionality because [s]it'll interfere with the controller's motion detection detection?[/s] Sony is full of shit?

Pardon the double-post, but that [s]blahblahblah[/s] is supposed to be strikethrough text. Just pretend there's a line through it. Thank you for your time.

I thought it was Korea and not Japan that ripped off every design they could find?

@Quantum Zombie

They'll change it to something more MANLY like they did with the old magic wand design.

regardless of originality, if sony does it better, then hats off to them.
that being said, looking like it does, i think it may have a few obstacles to overcome

The problem is your all whinners specially the Wii fans. Motion sensing started with Sony the eye toy didnt make it cause there was lack f support from other developers. Hence why Sony didnt go further with it. Nintendo saw it liked it and of course made the Wii which was mostly inhouse developed games.
I didnt own an eye toy but I did by the PS eye and it has some great potential. SO deep down no matter how much all you people complain Sony ripped off Nintendo its the other way around.
