Rumors, like little boys’ dreams, can come true.
The PlayStation 3 Slim is real. Unveiled at Sony Computer Entertainment’s press conference in Cologne, the smaller hardware will see an early September release at all major retailers. The Slim model ships with a 120 GB hard drive, a Dual Shock 3 controller and an HDMI output. It’s priced at $299.99, which should give the hardware some extra steam come this holiday season (comparitively to the still $399 160 GB console).
The PS3 Slim has been rumored heavily. The first stirrings were in May, when a Chinese blog posted an image of the Slim’s smaller shell. Since then, retailers like Amazon and K-mart have listed the console at different times. Understandably, Sony never commented on the sleeker system, but c’mon, we all knew this was coming.

Still, I'm glad to hear the system will be competitively priced against the new 360 Elites now.
Seriously though, Sony did ok. They did what they had to do, and left few surprises. Although I feel the 3.0 Firmware was a turn of, we have waited for so long on a fw update, and still no Voice Chat?

On another note, this is what Sony needed to do. Its the same price as the regular Xbox and it gives tons more features. The only thing that could make this better would be to release a PS3 for 199 with a 20gb HD. This is indeed a great day for sony.

Summed up perfectly, that's £181. I paid £170 for my PSP with games. GOOD DEAL. But finally, at least it's now offical. I seriously hope it's not fugly.

im not to concerned with the BC.
i mean i still have my ps1, and both my slim and fat ps2's. so even if i didnt have the 60gb model, i still wouldnt care about the BC. cause i cant play my imports or backups on my ps3 anyway. thats why i have my ps1 still.

When has that ever happened? Never. So why would you even think it's a possibility? People who paid full price for the original PSone never got that option when the new smaller model was released. People who payed top dollar for their "fat boy" PS2 never go to do it when the slim model came out. They've never done that for their PSP teaks. Nintendo has never done it for their many modifications of many of their consoles and handhelds. It's never, ever happened. So why would you even assume it's a possibility here?
They seem to have gone back to the PS2 texture and not kept the PS3 glossy finish :/
I like the PS3 slim design.
Not enough to buy it though.
