Out with the old, in with the new. That seemed to be Sony's theme at today's Gamescom press event as the official announcement of the PS3 Slim and current model price cuts had everyone buzzing (despite the fact the news had been floating around via leaks for a few weeks already). Now, it seems not only do gamers have new options when it comes to pricing, but apparently the old "Spiderman" font is gone too, replaced by the similar but rounder one we see above.
What do you think of this new logo? Do you like it better than the old one or do you think it should have stayed the same?

The logo is beautiful.
I hate the new PS3 font, but I don't mind the Playstation font. I still prefer the Spiderman font and old PS3 font.
That's disgusting.
A new, cheaper PS3 is beneficial to us current owners because it means a higher install base. That means less waiting time for multiplayer games and more games because Sony can take the higher install numbers to publishers who would be more likely to develop for PS3 with the higher install base.
I really can't stand the new logo. Even if the old one was a spiderman rip-off, it looked good. This just looks like a generic, 90s "futuristic" logo.
The new logo is more in line with Sony's branding, so I say it's better.
Smooth, cool, and distinct without being garish. I prefer it over the Spider-man font, for sure.

See, it didn't strike me as a fresh look. Because I'd seen it on Spider-Man posters years prior to the PS3 launch. Arachnid and sharp, the font type seemed like it was appealing to adolescents, who, I'm told, do enjoy videogames; but with the PS3 being a sleek black machine that is aimed at an audience with a cheque book and a credit card, this new font seems more appropriate.
And that's what I have to say about fonts.
The slim isn't backward compatible, right? That's a bummer, and my only complaint.
why cant they have a logo that works like Xbox and Wii? :(
