Well, the first footage of Final Fantasy XIV is here from gamescom, and I have to admit, it looks really lovely. The video after the break is the alpha version of the game, so before you watch it prepare yourself to see a few rough spots, but overall it looks wonderful. And yes, much prettier than Final Fantasy XI. Happy now?

We can't tell too much about the details, as this footage is in German, so all we can really do is watch and think about what we already know -- no experience points, focus on weapons and more. What do you think after seeing this new footage: do you want the game, or are you in Jim's camp that Final Fantasy XIV talk should come after Final Fantasy XIII?

Ugh...still looks too much like XI, which was awful as far as MMOs go. If there's a monthly fee, I'll never touch it.

That doesn't sound like German, or I'm not hearing it right.

But I wouldn't understand anyway, only one year of German under my belt anyway.

More On Topic, looks good, but the world reminds me of Animal Crossing. As in the horizon bends unnaturally. Or it's just me.

Well, it is very pretty. Other than that, it looks kind of boring.

no exp, focus on weapons - sounds like Monster Hunter, but with very androgynous characters. Looks pretty, though.

I played XI for years and loved it, never found another MMO I could get into. Excitement meter is sitting pretty high right now :D

I'm glad they're going in a new direction with this. It's worth checking out.

My biggest gripe with FF Online was the stale battle system. Standing around to press the attack button while my hero gallantly stood there being punched in the face as the meter recouped was just boring and dated. I preferred EQ2/WOW's variety of single player combos. I'm also glad this appears to rely less on parties, since my gaming hours are too unpredictable for group play. As soon as I hit 30 on FF XI the game was over.

That combat log reminds me of when cable networks show movies, and when the movie's done they speed up the credits and the credits go really fast because there's not a lot of time to show the credits. Totally.

I tried to word this five different ways and that's the best I could do.

I agree with jehuty in most part, but if there's no monthly fee it may be a good game worth at the very least trying out after all.

I just wish they would announce a monthly fee so I know whether to even bother getting excited over the game.

...with so many free multiplayer online games available on consoles, I'm hoping the fee will be lower than previous.... though that's likely a faint hope.

I'm totally pumped for this, looks enough like ffxi that it reminds me of when I used to play, but the graphics, and the quicker battles look like the gameplay will be a new experience. I mean, just watching the guy fight several enemies at once, with a quest box counting down how many he had killed, is WAY different than ffxi. FFXI hardly had quests, it definitively didnt keep track of quest objectives, and good luck fighting ANYTHING alone, let alone 3 at once by yourself.....

2 thumbs up!!!

Played XI for a year and enjoyed it, but I would have liked more single player stuff. It's kind of a pain when half of the time, you're spending 30 minutes to an hour to pull a decent group together, even with a good linkshell and then you spend 15 minutes sneaking your way to an area where mobs give decent experience.

The guy isnīt talking about any new features. Just smalltalk while he is playing.

And my god, terrible clipping in the game, the fights looked really stupid that way.

Well, I am not interested, Final Fantasy just isnīt my type of MMO, WoW is far superior and Old Republic I think will be lightyears ahead of FF XIV.

@Naim Master Maybe because it's being seen over a cam and your retarded? On another note, I'm not sure about Japanese MMOs, it looks on par with a modern MMO graphics. Maybe even a bit to high, I wonder about the multiplayer aspect of it and hope it's not going to be turned into mass instances or something else lame. Like EQ2 or COH.

Not sure.

@ Narishma,

"Meh. Still has that boring turn-based combat that most MMORPGs have..."

I'll never understand comments like yours. this is an MMO. Why did you click to watch the video knowing this was an MMO if you don't like the genre? I'm not going to click on a video showing the next Tiger Woods games, because I don't like golfing games. I'm certainly not going to comment about how much I dislike golf games. Who gives a crap what I like or don't like?

But, when it comes to MMO's everybody and their mother feels entitled to let me know how they feel about it. I wonder why that is. What is it about MMO's that are so fascinating, even to people who claim they hate them?

I like how people are complaining about issues they see in the video, but don't understand that this is a pre-Alpha build.

Go make games yourself or stfu, you exude ignorance by complaining about clipping issues during the first video ever released showing actual gameplay.

anyways, AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Those Dodo's look..... TASTY! I don't like the mouse thingy... I always preferred FF11 keyboard full control of characters, good for when you play over 25hours a day of game time. Godammit I WANT IT NOW!!! I NEED TO LEVEL!!!!

I will say this. I certainly won't be getting that on the PC. My computer would blow up. I feel the same way I did about FFIX. It shouldn't be considered part of the main series. FFIX should have been called Final Fantasy Online or something and this could have been Final Fantasy Online 2.

I never played FFXI but always wanted to because I'm a Final Fantasy nerd. I will most definitely play this.

Umm I am playing Final Fantasy 11 right this moment on the 360 and the footage looks nothing even close to FF11. Only the races resemble to game from the footage in my honest opinion. Other than that 1 minor thing from the video, it pretty much blew my mind, I can't wait til it comes out!

Let me clarify, people.

ANY high quality MMORPG needs to have a fee for server up keep, new features, and bug issues. This game will be no different. IT WILL COST! IT HAS TO COST! Please, get off your goddamn high horses of "I'm not paying for shit!"

As for TOR. What makes that game look better? The fact that it's bordering on looking like the CG film or the fact that the little we have seen of the combat from that game looks just as slow and mundane as FFXIV?

Graphically, it DOES look purdy, but otherwise looks like FFXI. Just with purdier graphics. And I need more than that to sell me on it. My time on FFXI ruined my enthusiasm for another FF MMO, so they gotta show me something really good to get me back.
