GC 09: Eye of Judgment coming to PSP photo

One announcement that seems to have avoided major detection is one concerning camera-based PS3 card game Eye of Judgment. Using physical cards and the PlayStation Eye, it always been a neat game in theory, but never really seemed to catch on in spite of its potential marketing genius. Perhaps the PSP version will do better.

Eye of Judgment is indeed coming to the PlayStation Portable, using the handheld system's own camera add-on to do the same kind of nonsense its bigger brother did. Right now, details are scarce but it's supposed to be playable at Gamescom and any questions will most likely be answered.

Will a portable version of this card game do better than the home console original? What do you reckon?

I actually just picked up the original a few days ago because it was only $20 at Toys r us. The games kinda iffy but the camera's nice.

Did the PSP camera ever hit the States? Can't think of any games that use it over here.

I'm a little... concerned. I loved the idea of the original game although by the time I saw it cheap enough the online had died off and the cards were hard to find... but wouldn't it just be easier to have it as a digital card game (ala Card Fighters Clash etc), than to have to juggle a PSP and an on-going physical card game.

My buddy had that game, and it rocked....like a mix between yu-gi-oh and chess, with 3-d animated battle sequences.....when sciondair fire-god dropped, you know shit will die lol...

That said, i think that this will fail for two reasons....how much and how available is the PSP camera in north america? and how sensitive will it be, because i had to put a light bulb 2 feet above the PS3 eye to even get the cards to read....

I dunno, Jim. I think the game wasn't successful because it wasn't particularly good. I've got it, and I've played it a couple of times, but never had any sort of fun with it.

@Stanfy

The psp camera was never released in the states, my guess is this is Europe and Japan only. But who knows maybe this is how the plan on marketing the psp camera to the US, as if it worked with the PSEye for the PS3.

I actually really liked the game, but only if you played with someone in the same room. The online game was balls.

Since the PSP camera isn't in the states yet, they're probably going to bundle it with this game if it ever does come to come to America.

the trailer doesn't mention the camera. It's more like yugioh and it doesn't use a camera for it.

What's the point of playing a card-based game with cards AND your handheld if you could play it just with cards? But it's okay if they don't use the camera, though.

I remember trying this out when a nearby arcade/LAN café/TCG center had it to show off with. me, a friend and his two friends played a few rounds in it. good fun.

if I had a PSP, I would probably NOT PIRATE this.

I love the original - still play it occasionally. One of those easy to learn hard to master games not to mention you can pick it up dirt cheap nowadays - often cheaper than buying a camera solus. Only problem is picking up cards. Luckily my local Gamestation was having a mass blowout of the cards on the cheap.
