GaymerX organizers reveal Read Only Memories

3:00 PM on 11.19.2013

You say the term "adventure game" and you'll get my attention. Say the word "cyberpunk" and you'll really have my attention. Say "cyberpunk adventure game" and I'll be begging for more info.

Read Only Memories is a new game from Midboss Games, a studio formed by the organizers of GaymerX. Their Kickstarter campaign is looking for just over $60,000 to develop the game for PC, Mac, iOS and Android devices, and Ouya -- indeed the latter is matching each dollar raised with a dollar of their own.

Set in Neo San-Francisco (see, adding 'Neo' to your city makes it immediately cyberpunk; it's the law), you'll control a journalist that is given a ROM -- think smartphone, Google Glass, and R2-D2 all in one -- by a friend before they mysteriously disappear. Heavily influenced by the seminal Snatcher, Read Only Memories will offer branching paths, puzzles, and fleshed-out characters.

Midboss game are keen to get community feedback to make the characters, both queer and non-queer, ring true. Considering I missed out on Snatcher when it came out, Read Only Memories looks like a chance to experience that type of 16-bit era adventure game.
