It's not a matter of homophobia,but I see double standards here,I never saw another event called "Straight Gamers Convention" or something. My problem is that it tries to distinct gay people from straight people like it actually even matters. Equality is one thing,but boasting all the time and putting a label on everything is a completely other. I think if a "Straight Gamers Association" or something made straight-only events,gay people would be offended too. There shouldn't be sexual preference distinction at all in events like that. Peace.

Man, i am happy to live in a country with a female chancellor, a gay vice chancellor and the mayor of the capital also being gay without anybody making a fuzz about that.

Because making a convention where people who aren't usually accepted or catered to, can be accepted and catered to is a BAD thing.

... more gaming events open to gamers (like PAX) are a good thing any you look at it. I'm sure it will be open to everybody, so I'm not sure why there are any complaints.

As a few have noted, the success as a gaming event will likely depend on if they can get publishers and devs on board, and devs are stretched pretty thin with E3 and the various PAX events already (so no cries of "discrimination" if particular devs don't attend). Still, whether it evolves as a gaming event, or simply as a smaller venue where LBGT gamers can freely gather and celebrate a common interest - I don't see the harm... so long as the event isn't a closed event and is open to anyone who wants to attend.

@Stravros, it's been said (multiple times, actually) that straight people are welcome. As are bisexual, transgendered and queer identified people.

Funny you should mention running for office. I was just thinking the same thing a few days ago. Although i doubt i would get many votes since i have an extreme hatred of children... Not to mention that i would try and push for making death by firing squad an option again. Also, i despise children.

The convention's a great idea, but "safe space"? Did you just hear that second hand or do you actually use lit crit babble in everyday conversation?

This is both good and bad. It's good that gays now have a place to be safe from homophobic people but bad since they are technically separating themselves from the rest of society. But I think this is quite fine. Hope they won't make it exclusive...

The argument about wanting a safe place where you can feel comfortable sounds reasonable, it’s a basic human right as far as I’m concerned, but do people encounter a lot of homophobia at the other game cons? This is a legit question I’m asking here, I’ve just never heard of any. I realise there’s a lot of bullshit that has to be dealt with on Xbox live and all that, but that’s something separate from the conventions isn’t it?

I don't see the point in this at all. Do we need a gamecon for every single group of people? I'm demanding a "hispanic transgender" gamecon, or how about those african american midgets? They deserve a gamecon too!

I know I'm a few days late in being able to say it, but good for them for getting the funding.
Only thing I wish is that they took a risk and did it in a community that was a little more risky to do it in then San Fransisco. I mean, I know its not meant to be a protest or anything, but it is -kinda- to shove it in the collective face that Gaymers are out there and have a voice too. So, I don't know.. San Fran just seems like a "too safe" choice to me.
