Gas Powered Games has 'a lot of interest in' Demigod 2 photo

Demigod was a good game. As such, a sequel to Demigod would be -- I have to imagine -- received well. In a Gamescom-flavored interview between Gamers.fr and Gas Powered Games' leading man Chris Taylor, the notion of doing a follow-up was danced around in fairly honest terms.

"We made an investment in that game, and we spent a lot of money on it," says Taylor. "Now, some things have happened since that; we’ve got a lot of interest in a sequel to Demigod. And we feel that maybe the kids will go to college if we do a really good job on the sequel, and we can make some of the money back that we invested in the core game and the core IP."

As long as a Demigod sequel doesn't come out directly alongside the supposed Valve-developed DotA game, I'd be all for it.

I would love that.
Never played the first one, but I would totally get the second one if it came out.

The first step would be canning the horrible engine. It just doesn't work for this kind of game.

Tried DemiGod, hated it from day one. The obsession with releasing 20 versions of DoTA which even the original isn't that great is beyond me..

I missed the first game, so I'm going to go Amazon that now.

I don't understand how people can say they LOVED the Tosh mission in Starcraft 2, and then say they HATED Demigod... The Tosh mission in Starcraft 2 WAS Demigod! It was the same exact thing! Demigod was awesome; its a shame more people didn't play it.

DemiGod is actually a good game. But it cannot be compared with DoTA, they are completely different. It's like comparing Halo to Counterstrike, they are the same type of game, but completely different.

They had a sale on DemiGod a few months back for like $2.50. I picked it up and enjoyed playing skirmishes against the computer, I haven't gone online with it yet and probably never will.

I think the major negative of this game would be the lack of a single player campaign. They say it's a "tournament" but instead of an actual structured system, it's just playing 10 or so skirmishes and the game saying YOU WIN! That and the developers promising dozens of new champions and eventually releasing 2 doesn't help.

Agreed with Exquisitor and Jawmuncher, a good campaign would make the sequel 150% more interesting.

I played the first game only for a couple of hours, it was interesting but I thought it was way too slow and previous experience with GPG.net (SupCom) were enough to keep me away from the multiplayer (which I heard that sucked, anwyway).

Demigod is an AWESOME game. Just the community and matchmaking are amongst the worst I've ever encountered in gaming. I'd rather play Halo 3 on XBL than have to put up with the majority of the douchebags in the DG player community.

I really really hope they focus on a single-player experience this time. Why? It's not that one is inherently preferable to the other, but the high graphical requirement of Demigod 1 just work better for single-player. In theory, the netcode and the graphics code should be separate enough to perform independently of the other, but that just isn't how it flies in practice. It's a very beautiful game and with a little inventiveness the Dota style should adapt easily to single player. Besides, didn't Stardock say that only 20% of those who bought the game ever logged into the multi-player lobby. I would count as one of those 20%, and I never played a multiplayer match. Anyway, this is good news if they do it right. The engine is fine and what they have so far is fine, they just need to expand on what there already is.

Haven't bothered to try this game out but myself and about ten other friends started playing League of Legends recently and THAT game is a great successor to DOTA. The added depth you get through the Summoner system is really enjoyable and allows that extra level of customization. Oh, and it's free to play!

Demigod was not my kind of game. They can release as many sequels as they want.
