At least its something, I mean the Wii is pretty value-less right now. Not enough to make me trade it in though(not that Im getting a Wii U anyway, at least not for a few years).
Is the draw because it's different? New? Nintendo? I'm not trying to be rude or cruel, I'm simply not capable of understanding the desire for this machine. I bought a Wii long, long after release - after I had built a small catalogue of exclusive titles that warranted the purchase (system buyers, if you will). I don't regret the purchase. The Wii U simply does not sparkle in any regard for me. Sorry fellow gamers. I probably shouldn't have typed this.
I can get way more than 50 for my hacked Wii assuming I wanted to sell it, which I don't.
Unless I fall into some spare cash for Xmas, I think I can wait. Buying consoles at launch has never worked out despite all the hype.
I think it's a matter of how you value it. There are several ways to perceive value in a product so I'll give my own view. I want to get the wii u because through my experience with wii I had a lot of fun playing games on it with family and friends. When we dog each other on mario, brawl, donkey kong, etc. we have a good time. For my experience with other systems it's kind of hard to get it to that level. But thats the thing I like. As well I like the first party games that Nintendo produces. It's just my preference.
I bought the wii u because see the value I held for wii carrying over to this system.
If I'm interpreting this right. you don't think that there is value to it, and that's great! That's whats awesome about being a consumer. You should stick to how you see value. I hope that makes sense :)
To me, it's about the games. Nintendo makes fun games. The hardware might not be as advanced as MS's, but the hardware doesn't really matter much in the end. SMB3 will always be fun, even though the NES' hardware is perhaps less advanced than any single chip in the 360.
I know almost nothing about the Wii U (honestly; I know there's a tablety thing with sticks on it that connects to a base console, but that's seriously all I know right now... I've been waiting for details to shake out to pay attention), but I think I can safely assume that Nintendo will have some pretty cool game concepts for the new hardware, given their history.
Then again, maybe Nintendo's games aren't your taste. I certainly don't care much for CoD or Halo, but that doesn't mean they're bad games.
Gamestop's not getting any hardware from me.
By the way, they had double trade-in back duruing the Summer promotion, which could net you between like $170 and $190 for your used systems.
@BigMooingCow
Thanks for the respectable response guys rather than ripping me in half for having an opinion.
I think you both hit the proverbial nail on the head and I've been too dim to realize it. I'm primarily a solo gamer (old guy with three kids) and I don't subscribe to the DudeBro crowd, yet I do like the Halo campaigns, not the multiplayer component. My eldest daughter and I play Borderlands and Rayman Origins together, but that's it. Rayman Legends looks beautiful, but not system buying worthy.
I have bought most systems in existence on the NA market (a few import too) since 1985 and I still own them. The only current gen-ish systems I currently do not own are a Vita and a 3DS (matter of time once my libraries are more plush or feel the itch). Neo-Geo X is a no-brainer for this old-schooler.
I prefer and mainly play RPGs, so the party/group gaming component never appealed to me and still doesn't. I'm just not part of Nintendo's demographic apparently and I'm not sore about that - I have too many games to play as it. Now, if another Fire Emblem or Advance Wars pops up on the Wii U, then I will show some dedicated interest.
Anyways, thanks again for the responses in kind.
I was going to suggest SNK's Neo Geo library as another example of a company that knows how to make games that are just *fun*. There's nothing intrinsic about Metal Slug that would make you think it was a better game than any other side-scroller of the era (think Contra, or Rolling Thunder, or Rush N Attack), but it's one of those games that just 'clicks' for certain people. Most SNK games I've played 'click' for me, as do many Nintendo games.
Part of me wishes Nintendo were just another game studio, so I didn't have to buy their hardware. I've owned most of their systems (skipped the Virtual Boy and 3DS and barely played the N64) but I don't like buying console systems; it's too much money to blow on something tied to a TV when I can get perfectly good F2P or Steam Sale-d games or any number of iPad games for <$5. That said, I did get suckered (and I do mean suckered) into a PS3 for GT5, and I've had a 360 since its first Forza game, so I'm not keeping very well to my no-hardware ideals. :)
At some point there will be a KILLER game for the Wii U that really sells the idea of the tablet-thing, and we'll all buy it for that. I just hope the price has dropped before that day. :)
@auggie
I am suprised they are giving that much for vita
i am not giving up any system but i already preordered
*List something on the craigslist and one of these things happen:
1) nothing - no one wants it
2) spam emails that just say "do you have it"
3) emails from idiots that say "is it available"
4) buyer never responds to say where they are or when they're free
5) they can't make it, either day of or an hour after
6) they haggle over $5 (one guy tried to wear me down after the intial $5, said "his bank account couldn't handle" the $35 + gas, backed out, then said he "found $10 in his car" and called me twenty times in two hours. I'm sure if I actually met him he would've come up short)
7) say they want to try it out first
8) completely smooth transaction
