I know, I know. How is this news, right? News or not, GameStop has said that the 2008 holiday season will be just as Wii-challenged as the last couple have been.
"I've never seen this type of demand before. I know they're making more, but we're still short like everybody else. I think we'll have a continued shortage this Christmas," said GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo to GameDaily.
"I don't see a near-term end in sight for Wii shortages, not unless they really ramp up supply. I think they've ramped it up 20 percent or so, but Nintendo is fairly cautious by nature. They ramped it up 20 and it's still evaporating."
Here's the thing, though: If retailers already know in September that they'll have shortages in a few months, shouldn't Nintendo be ramping things up right about now?
Here's the other thing: Everyone I know that wants a Wii has one. I guess soccer moms and whatnot are still seeking one out, but I know people that have one just to have one. Will the demand really be as high for the third holiday season? What do you think?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Any takers?
And what's worse, blogs STILL give them free marketing on the issue. Everyone knows about the Wii already. No need to inflate it's popularity to make it anything more than merely a novelty.
I always tell the story of when I took my Wii to visit my relatives out east in 2007. I brought a few games, mostly oriented towards the new gamer, and within 2 months of my trip, all of my aunts and uncles with kids had bought a Wii. It's ridiculous.
Hell yeah i am waiting a little closer till the holidays and boom pocket rape somebodies wallet. I want a ps3 with metal gear 4.
Seriously, Nintendo's strategy coming into this generation:
Use last gen's graphical power
Do NOT support any resolution higher than 480p
Do NOT include a hdd to store all those cool Virtual Console games.
As for Virtual Console, release a ratio of 3:1 crappy:good games ratio.
For the controller:
instead of pushing B, shake horizontally
instead of pushing A, shake vertically
instead of pushing Y, shake toward the monitor
The 2 best games on the system are best played with the freakin' classic controller...
Yes, I own all 3 systems and yes the Wii is never played. PS3 and 360 share about equal time, but still pale compared to PC.
