That's some shady shit there, Capcom. What if I wanted to start over from scratch? WTF?
It's gamestop/ebgames
They want that money.
Only something entirely unplayable like DCU makes sense to not accept to sell as used.
@TheNephilym
Are those original Xboxes in that window? Oh, the memories.
And gamecubes too! lol
Also, I'd like to know about the number of saves you get, too. I don't think having a NG+ option is going to do you much good if you can't erase the file. Say you buy it and it's in the middle of the campaign. If you can't erase it or start over on a new file, what the hell do you do? If you only get like 3 files and 3 people have already owned the game, what the hell do you do? It's craziness.
I don't have my 3DS or my DS games with me to go through the games I have but I know over time I've bought at least 2 used DS games from Gamestop that didn't allow you to delete the previous persons data. They aren't the most amazing games or anything, but it does happen.
Also, I might be reading the article wrong but why would EB Games be working independently from Gamestop on this? They're the same company still correct? "Destructoid decided to see if GameStop had similar plans in North America.." even sounds like these rumors are coming from a completely different country that isn't being noted.
And on the other side of that are the suckers who will see that game on the shelf and buy it used, only to find out they can't play a fresh game on it.
Publishers and retailers selling these type of games should at least put a sticker on the box warning people of this.. the average customer won't have a clue until it's too late.
Well, according to the article just above, the line in red, there's only one save slot.
Haven't read much about this yet. But I can't think of one good reason for the consumer to be unable to erase the save file. I hope it has a "new game" option that doesn't carry over existing progress and upgrades.
What, you think I actually read jim's articles? I just comment on the titles. :P
Anyway, thanks for pointing that out. It's just as fucked as I thought it was.
Yeah, so this is great for the people in the latter category. Not for the ones in the former. Hence, to some this is still an issue worth thinking about.
Where were these people for Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2 and why were they happily taking it up the ass from EA when they're the most hostile toward the used market in general.
I only stopped to get SOTD new because they weren't pulling that kind of shit with the game.
This Mercenaries thing? Mountain out of a molehill.
Sorry, but that's the problem at hand. The game saves on the cartridge rather than the 3DS or SD card.
I'm also seeing people on multiple forums reporting that thier gamestop/ebgames stores are not accepting the game for trade ins.
Oh, my bad. Well then...that really, really sucks. I usually like to replay old games from scratch a few years later when I have nothing else to play. :(
Normally the manager would shrink-wrap checked out games and sell them as new. With these, there was no way to do so, and I was scolded for checking out the games (shockingly, I only stayed a few months there before quitting Office Space style). That said, we sure as hell still sold used copies of these games, so I'd be surprised if gamestop doesn't sell RE Mercs used.
Wow. That was hard. If you're buying it used your not helping anybody but Gamestop or EB Games anyway.
Ummm and my pocketbook. Not every game is worth buying new...my solution to this is make a great game everyone wants day 1 and used games are a minor annoyance. You may not like COD but do you really think they are up late trying to figure out how to screw gamers over with used game sales? This type of stuff just ends up sinking your sales not increasing them. Why don't they just go all the way and make a game that self destructs if it is used on a 2nd 3DS? It is basically the same thing.
Bullshit. If they want to do things to make sure people will buy it new over used, fine but have the balls to actually say it. I hate all the bullshit PR people spew.
Honestly, having these updates now, I can see the signs of Gamestop managers and district managers deciding to take it on themselves to not take the pre-owed copies of this game in lue of the obvious ire they're going to wreak from the costumers. Its not unheard of for this to happen, even when a company isn't bound under one corporate roof.. Gamestop will either tell them to quit it or let them keep up whats good for their market.
Besides, either way, it doesn't sound like many people are wanting to get the game at all now, let alone used, because of this whole mess.. And thats all on Capcom's head.
Fuck you, Capcom for your dick moves, and for also making vague, incoherent statements in regard to your dick moves. If you're going to try to screw the used game consumer, you may as well own up to it... it's not like there aren't plenty of other publishers making themselves out to be assholes for the same reasons.
Resident evil mercenaries is nothing but a rental anyways IMHO.... and I can't even do that since Gamefly denied my Game Q and set it as "Not Rentable" or some shit.
It's insulting to consumers and also a breach of the consumer/distributor relationship, as it basically is making the obvious statement, "We want to take control away from consumers in every conceivable way possible."
Fuck Capcom. I'm not buying this game, and if they continue this trend I'll use my marketing power to not buy anything else from them. There are plenty of other, much better games coming out anyhow.
For me its not so much being shafted out of used game sales as it is I can never restart the game or have a new save file. That seems severely limiting on the game itself, even if it is a game that focuses on "beat your last high score".
The concept of "You can only have ONE new game on a game you purchased" can only hurt the gamer, and is incredibly shady.
The only game I know so far that has made it confusing to reset user data was Nintendogs. But you could still do it.
But what when, like the article says, there is only one save slot that can't be deleted or overwritten?
Really, what is a good reason for not allowing the user to control or reset their save data in a game? I personally reset games, or have multiple save files all the time, I'm sure I'm not the only one.
