GameStop offering Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo with reserves photo

An Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer demo will be available before the game hits store shelves this October. The demo won’t be available as a cost-free download over PlayStation Network. Gaining access to it will require some cash.

The bastion of civilization, GameStop, is currently offering the multiplayer demo as an exclusive gift for those willing to reserve the title. According to the official GameStop Web site, the demo will be available from August 19 to September 27.

Details about the demo’s content haven’t been given. We’re guessing that it will include stuff that isn’t in the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta: a couple of new modes, perhaps a new map or two, different weapons, and fiction-cracking aliens.

The Uncharted 2 beta ends on June 28.

In addition to a multiplayer demo, GameStop is offering “an unlockable booster” dubbed “The Revenge Attribute.” It will, apparently, allow players to have instant access to something that would otherwise need to be unlocked through multiplayer play. Awesome.

If you’re revved enough to buy Uncharted 2: Among Thieves the day it hits stores, you may want to consider giving the folks at GameStop some bills in exchange for a pre-order. These offerings are quite hot, even if you loathe the franchise.

They accidentally gave me one when I pre-ordered Infamous. I didn't know the beta code came in the game case so I asked and they gave me another card that's good for the multiplayer demo.

This is a demo. Not a beta key. Demo.

I love how the word demo is pretty much pointless at this point. You actually have to monetarily commit to a game before they'll let you try it out.

@Midgetsnowman

There are actually quite a few demos available on XBLA and PSN without requiring any type of monetary commitment. You should check it out sometime.

Yea this is kind of lame...you'd think that with a low install-base system like the PS3 you would WANT to publicly release this demo and show off how great it is: this is coupled with the fact that all it does is hassle you into going to Gamestop in a few months to "reserve" the game, getting the code, then taking back your $5 the same day.

Save us a trip to the store for a risk-free demo, developers! We just want to play your games god damnit!

Yes, apparently today is NOT my day as I've been missing many obvious things while reading. *beats head on couch arm repeatedly* Thanks Brad =)

for people who are having trouble finding beta codes, just go to google and type "uncharted 2 beta code", the first result will be file planet. Log in with your file planet/ign account and it will generate a beta code for you. very simple

Really, there's no commitment at all. Reserve it, and unless you never plan on going in, near or past the place again until release day, you can move your $5 to Batman or something. Hell, you could probably do it as soon as they hand you the card. What are they going to do, demand it back?

Not that I can imagine why you wouldn't want the follow up to a game as awesome as Uncharted.

stupid stupid stupid- What is the point of a demo if you are reserving the game already? A demo should be there to promote the game.

@Trev: for one, I dont have much interest in ps3 games as I lack a ps3.

For two, my issue with it is simple.

You wont get many people willing to commit a reserve even if they can cancel it just to try the game before they buy it. if say, an MMo asked for ten bucks to demo their game before you spent the money for a full account, people would laugh their asses off at the company for it. A demo is supposed to be a promotional tool to bring in players who would never buy the game otherwise, not a reward for getting in an early order.

I'll reserve it, get my demo...then cancel my reserve.

Problem solved.

It's really not for promotional purposes.
They need people to test the online experience out first, and who is better to test it out than the people that are interested in buying it?
