GameStop offering exclusive Pokemon character photo
     Pokemon

If you like rare Pokémon and haven't firebombed your local GameStop yet, you may be in for a bit of a treat: the last two weekends in June, you can stop by your local store equipped with your DS and a copy of Pokémon Diamond or Pokémon Pearl and get an exclusive new Pokémon, the formidable Deoxys. Yay, free stuff!

By the way, in case you somehow missed this news because you were in a coma last week, if getting Deoxys free is straining your jam-packed critter collection, you ought to check out My Pokémon Ranch for WiiWare, which our own Jonathan Holmes wrote his impressions on last week. It's handy for Pokémon obsessees, and pretty cute too.

Did You Know?

Pokémon Fans to Catch Rare Character at GameStop Stores

There are many ways to catch a Pokémon, but for two special weekends in June, there's only one failsafe way for fans to get one of the most unique characters in the enthralling Pokémon® universe on their Nintendo DS.

From June 20-22 and June 27-29, Pokémon players are invited to bring their Nintendo DS systems and Pokémon® Diamond or Pokémon® Pearl games to the nearest GameStop store where they can receive Deoxys, a legendary character with transformative powers and an impressive set of battle-ready moves.

With an imaginative roster of characters and richly interactive game play, the blockbuster Pokémon game series has attracted millions of fans worldwide. According to the independent NPD Group, Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl have sold more than 4.2 million combined in the United States alone, while Nintendo DS continues to be ranked as the nation's top-selling hand-held game system.

Thank you Nintendo for utilizing the Nintendo Channel by allowing us to download free crap like this for our DS games, so we don't have to go into Gamestop and be stared at like pedophiles because we're 30-years old and want the new Pokemon.

Oh, wait, no. You're not doing that. You're using it to let us download DS demos for games we already have or no one wants.

I was really looking forward to seeing what they'd use the channels for, and was hoping we could grab stuff for our games, not just the demos.

Oh well...

I'll be sitting in front of a GameStop in my car. No one will see me.

A kid at the Toys R Us Darkrai giveaway had a device similar to the R4, and no one seemed to notice/care. >>

Now hooray for a Deoxys that isn't just being given away in Texas, bwaha.

A may walk into a Gamestop just to do this, and hopefully I might "trip" into the PS3 shelves and...sort of buy one with MGS4.

and the fact Platnnuim is announced, I assume we'll be getting a Shayaman event in Pokemon Ranger?

I hope this is just a download service and not some sort of go in and shamefully hand in your copy of the game

@king and brecksher

It's no different than the ds download channel to get some demos when you're in a gs store. They're not gonna hound you or put you in a line, you can walk around the store and act like you're browsing and just do it. R4 or no R4 it's not their business.

Giraffy is right. I've worked at Gamestop for three years now (it's paid the bills for college, don't judge me) and frankly I don't give a damn what you do when your there. R4? Fine. No clue what an R4 is? Perfect, please just don't ask me to explain. Want to come in and download and leave? Not a problem, just don't fuck up my store so I have to spend more time cleaning up. Pretty basic request I believe. Of course though, if they decide that I have to personally check people's DS's or install it, or anything of the sort.... I may just set the building on fire.

@zombiekiller13: PLEASE come in. I much rather have 30 year old customers who know what they want and will probably manage to be respectful then the hordes of kiddies that are bound to barge into my store demanding their pokemon, screaming incessantly while their Parent's just watch or try to make small talk. I know about half the staff on my store plays Pokemon, and I believe our youngest employee is 20. I'm not sure what it's like at all GS's, but we've basically got a college theme at ours and I know for one I appreciate older customers who are gamers. Not only can I have a relatively civilized conversation with you about games, but you also understand that it's a business establishment, not a playground.

Does it say anything about our culture that I fear the weekends of the Pokemon event more so then my upcoming military deployment...

For past promotions like this, all I've had to do is park in front of the store, turn on my DS, and download it. Didn't even have to get out of the car.

Any Pogee I don't have to spend 12 hours hunting in an older version is a good thing. Never got Deoxys last time.

@zombiekiller13: mm hmm.

@ Spartacus:

Same thing happened to me. Hand to God.

@ Dexter345:

You know those weird meteors in Veilstone city? From what I've read, if you touch them with Deoxys leading your party you can change him between the four forms. Much more convenient than trading him from pak to pak.
