GameStop: 'key' Nintendo property coming later this year photo

Destructoid's own Jim Sterling said that we should go with the headline "Nintendo's false hope for 2009." Nick Chester said that we should play with the word "key" by making up something ridiculous like Kingdom Hearts Wii confirmed for 2009!?!?

All joking aside, something is coming from Nintendo this year, according to GameStop CEO Dan DeMatteo. How does he know? Nintendo told him to reserve some shelf space.

"We think there will be a Nintendo key property coming out by the end of the year," he told CNBC. "They haven't given us any insight, but they have told us to reserve [shelf] space."

Wait, don't they reserve shelf space for every game?

Anyway, I'm sure he's not referring to Zelda. We already know about the upcoming DS game, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. What else could it be? A new Mario game?

In other news, but in the same CNBC article, DeMatteo says that he'd like to see a PS3 price drop. Wouldn't we all? "That price point is clearly an issue in this economy," he says.

To both these comments, I say no sh*t, Sherlock.

Remember all the hype for the new Kid Icarus last year? Ah, memories.

That said, it'll probably be another "Wii [insert name here]" game. Wii Sit? Wii Shoot? Wii Give Us All You Cash And Accept The Crap We Give You?

Sigh...pre-Wii Nintendo, we miss you.

The Legend of Zelda: Rock n Roll. After you kill Ganon by moving Link around with your ass on the balance board, you rock out on top of a mountain with an amplified ocarina peripheral (that you need shelf space for)

Hey I'd play that!

"Nintendo told him to reserve some shelf space."

Why?! Because it's gonna be sitting on the shelves for awhile while nobody buys it?!

Zing!

What? You mean Nintendo might actually have a holiday line-up this year? You mean, I won't have to listen to my region's Nintendo rep talk about how 'misunderstood' Wii Music is and that Animal Crossing is a 'sleeper hit' that will 'really take off' after the holidays?

Nah, I'll believe it when I see it. Here's hoping it's that new Kirby game that supposedly has been in the works, on and off, since the Gamecube days.

::Waiting for John B to come in and blast you guys::

But in all seriousness, the Playstation 3 easily has the best line-up this year. If Punchout!! Wii and The Conduit suck, it's going to be a hard year for the Wii...

the key nintendo property coming up this year will be...Wii Music 2!

That's right! Now with more musical instruments to choose from! More minigames to play! It now supports Wii Motion Plus for that extra waggle feel! Play deathmatches with your friends online as you try to kill each other with your instrument of doom while teabagging their corpses while singing a tune.

Wii Fold Bedsheets! There's something Miyamoto does that he hasn't made a game out of yet.
