A game 7 years in the making that was guaranteed from the begining not to make money could be canceled? What a shocker.
That's it. The dudebros have won, and we no longer have a star in the sky to guide us to the promised land. That star may have led us to the middle of nowhere, but the hope of fertile new land was enough to keep plodding forward.
If this ends up being true, I suspect the true reasons will remain a mystery for a very long time. I fear that gaming may have evolved right out of its ability to sustain the Team Icos of the world, and god do I hope I'm wrong.

What makes this more terrible, if its true, is how it has come to light- via a retailer, and not Sony or the devs.

If this is true, Sony's 2012 lineup of exclusives takes a huge hit. At least in terms of titles I am personally interested in. This was leading the charge of my anticipated PS3 exclusives with Starhawk and Twisted Metal right behind it and The Last of Us (assuming it'll release in 2012) bringing up the rear.

Its cancelled because its being released tommorrow and given away for free compliments of sony as an xmas gift to all their customers, right? RIGHT!?!?! ....................................???....right?
I wonder what kind of shitstorm gamestop would/will be in if this is false. Why would they send out calls like this without confirmation from the company?

I wouldn't believe this even with game stop calling people to tell them this. Considering the creator stated he isn't leaving until the game is finished mostly because he's UNDER CONTRACT to finish it. Gamestop has been known to lie anyways because they like to be the center of attention.
Man, this hurts to see. The fact that Hayama-san leaving probably had something to do with this and knowing that he left to make social games really bodes ominously. I don't want to sound like chicken little claiming that the sky is falling...but if this is true, it will be quite an example to the industry.
At the end of the day, there are only so many people and companies making games and as developers, publishers and hardware manufacturers realize that they can make more money for less effort in the social/casual/mobile space we are going to see this more and more. I simply don't like it.

Don't worry everyone! Cancelled or not, Sony will make sure we still keep getting Uncharted, Killzone, and Resistance for the next 100 years.

After working previously for EBgames and Gamestop I can say this happens more often than not. Wait for SONY's official statement. GS upcoming lists are hardly the end all word on game releases.
Not sure how much leverage this holds but The Last Guardian is still available to preorder on Amazon.

Gamestop's automated system has giltched on epic scales before, but the fact the game has been removed from their system and site entirely is cause for alarm. Gamestop usually isn't wrong about what is and isn't coming out as their release list goes and they've been right much more often than wrong.
As Niero implied, its the western release that's really in question here.

I've had this pre-ordered from Amazon since it was in my Gold Box in December 2009. It now says it's coming January 2013, which basically means they have no clue.

I recommend following @PeterSkeritt on this issue. Theories floating around include PS4 launch title and digital-distribution only. This one hasn't stopped twitching yet.
Quite honestly, without Ueda or the Executive Producer, there isn't much I'm looking forward to in this game. I know Ueda would be consulting, but how much control would he retain?
The reason I loved the Team ICO games were because of his vision and Hayama's dedication to it. Remove those factors and the game is bound to fail to live up to any kind of hype.

It's too soon on the back of the other Last Guardian problems we've been hearing for it to be a Gamestop blunder. Unless it's an unfortunate coincidence of some type. Oh man, I hope so. this isn't the first time gamestop has removed a title from there system after taking pre-orders, they seem to do this a lot when a title doesn't come out within a year of them taking pre-orders or it keeps getting pushed back.
They did the same thing with starcraft 2 years ago, took my 5 dollars for a pre-order and then told me it was cancelled but wouldn't give me back my money, that was the last time i bought anything from gamestop and i think that was back in 2006

Don't worry guys. It's going to get released...they're just going to hand it over to Gearbox to finish it off and have it ready for E3 next year. Problem solved!
Hopefully it isn't cancelled would be such a shame, but I don't think Sony would cancel it after all the money put into developing it. Just don't go DNF and be utter shit when you come out.
