Gamestop is afraid of ghosts, begins canceling Ghostbusters preorders photo

Awhile back, we learned that Terminal Reality’s Ghostbusters was left off of the Activision Blizzard release schedule. Immediately, we were able to confirm through Sierra that the game was still in production. Now, it appears that Gamestop has lost the hope that we all had for the title and are beginning to notify customers that their Ghostbusters preorders are being canceled.

It’s an odd scenario, considering that the game is still alive and kicking. Nick got preview code for the game earlier this month. While the release date is still listed as “TBA,” there’s hardly an excuse for canceling preorders, especially considering that my Gamestop has an entire shelf dedicated to fake copies of the game. Also, there is no listing for Ghostbusters on Gamestop’s official website.

At this point, I’m forced to deduce that Gamestop is just out there to crush my dreams and push copies of Game Informer on me. Hopefully as the day progresses we’ll be able to sort out the dream crushing and this cancelation issue.

@big filth - Don't mistake tone with hate. Game Informer is cool, it's just that I'm offered it every time I walk into my Gamestop.

Blind speculation:

Sierra will get sold to EA.

You watch.

I work at GameStop. We aren't notifying anyone of anything being canceled. While further orders are no longer possible, people who have reserves already aren't losing their orders. At least that's what I was told. By GameStop.

I'm making a point of wearing my Ghostbusters: The Video Game shirt to work (GameStop) in a futile effort to rekindle hope in the title.

Don't give up!

The game has no release date or publisher so why should they keep offering preorders? I'm sure they start them again as soon as the game actually looks like it's going to be released.

I work at a gamestop. We 'have' to push GI on people to keep our jobs Brad - Preorders and GIs are how corporate decides on how many hours each store has. Its kinda' dumb IMO, BUT.. I gots a job I enjoy despite the fact everyone else.... hates the company....

i'm surprised, considering they pretty much take preorders on games that have just been announced, regardless of release dates. i think they've been taking preorders on the next duke nukem game for 5 years now.

When I stopped in yesterday to preorder Disgaea and Rhapsody DS, the clerk dejectedly handed me one of their Ghostbusters lanyards. "Go ahead and take it," he said, "We're not allowed to do any more preorders for Ghostbusters, so we're giving them out with regular reservations."

He was about ready to cry.

some other publisher will pick it up. It's too hot a property and has too much positive buzz for it to just get dumped.

Like Fury said the more we rep "GI" the more hours the store/I get. I like having money and a job so that's why I bring it up to everybody that walks into the store.

Well, I was dissapointed when I read about Ghostbusters this morning. I asked my boss and he said that it was because there is no publisher and release date at the moment. Once they find a new publisher sometime, probably 2009, it will be back on the list of pre-orders. The game is pretty much finished from what I hear so it will just be a matter of time till it comes out.

I had a pre-order on Twilight Princess for just about 3 years. I even had to change my pre-order from Gamecube to the Wii. For a while i didn't think that game was EVER going to come out. Much like Ghostbusters.
